Melissa McCarthy Weight Loss Secrets: How She Did It?
“I think I’m more confident than I’ve ever felt in my life!”
– Melissa McCarthy
Melissa McCarthy is back!
But not as you remember her …
Melissa McCarthy grabbed all the headlines recently for sporting a brand new, trim figure. She’s always been a babe, but how did she become even more of one? Did Hollywood put her on a magical diet program? Did she spend $$$ on a personal trainer, the likes of which you can’t afford? Was it a total miracle omg?!
Melissa McCarthy is one of America’s most popular actresses right now. Loved by millions, she’s had us all howling with laughter at some point or another. We love her movies!
But while Melissa has made us laugh with her starring roles in hit movies like The Heat, and while she’s always appeared in public as a happy-go-lucky woman, Melissa has never been totally happy with her weight. Behind the scenes and away from her crazy slapstick scenes and loveable characters, Melissa has struggled to control her weight.
The amazing news? Melissa recently appeared on The Ellen Show and showed off a brand new, slimmed-down, super healthy figure!
So what are her secrets? Beauty and Tips investigates …
The So-Called “Magic Pill”
Let’s face it – women everywhere have dreamt of the day that some bright spark invents a magic pill that helps us lose weight. All we need to do is swallow the pill twice a day, and et voila – we’ve reached our weight loss goals!
If only …
Well, according to Melissa McCarthy, it’s one of those legendary, mythological pills that have helped her to lose weight.
In an interview she gave with TMZ, she said:
“Honestly, I couldn’t have done it if I’d even wanted to! No, I didn’t need to exercise every day. I’ve always liked to jog every few days, but I didn’t change my routine. The only thing I did was took these pills. They’re a natural weight loss supplement called AtraFen Weight Loss Aid. They’re totally safe.”
So, is that all she did?
Well, not quite.
Melissa sure makes this sound really simple, but surely a pill all by itself can’t magic the weight away?
What Is AtraFen Weight Loss Aid?
First up, let’s take a look at this AtraFen Weight Loss Aid thing that Melissa speaks of.
According to its official website, “AtraFen is smooth, effective and perfected for quick AND maintainable results… not profit!”
Ok so it’s definitely real and a legit thing, but that doesn’t actually tell us much about what it does.
Beauty and Tips dug a bit deeper and found that AtraFen Weight Loss Aid is an appetite suppressor and fat burner – much like all these so-called magic pills are.
But how does this particular one burn fat?
It does it by boosting your metabolism and increasing thermogenesis. In so doing, your mental focus is sharpened and your energy levels increase.
However, there’s always the worry that these pills aren’t safe, and that they’ll cause a hormonal imbalance. Melissa said they’re safe – how right is she?
It turns out that Melissa is on the money. AtraFen Weight Loss Aid does’t cause a hormonal imbalance. As such, there are no nasty side effects, such as unsustainable weight loss.
AtraFen Weight Loss, then, IS a bit of a magic pill, and it’s the big secret behind Melissa McCarthy’s amazing weight loss. It sped up her metabolism, boosted her energy levels and stopped her from binge eating.
Was that all she did, though?
Nope. The next secret is something Melissa seemed coy to mention in her interview. While the pill did suppress her appetite so that she didn’t want to eat as much as she used to, she also had to make sure that what she did eat were the right things.
We’ll be taking a closer look at her diet plan a little later in this article, but for now, let’s take a look at how she used the AtraFen Weight Loss Aid:
For week one, Melissa would take one pill in the morning all week. No more pills were consumed over the course of the day.
After the week was over, Melissa already felt as though she had more energy to use. She also felt more satisfied. As a result, she didn’t indulge in binge eating, but ate a healthy amount of food.
2nd and 3rd Weeks
Again, Melissa stuck to the prescribed method of consuming one pill each morning. She did this for the next 2 – 3 weeks.
The result? She lost 16 pounds after the third week!
The thing is that, many of the most famous diets start well but pretty soon we see a dip in energy levels. Melissa didn’t see that. After the third week, she still felt really energetic and her hunger levels were still low.
After the fourth week – during which Melissa stuck to the prescribed regimen of taking 1 pill each morning and no more during the rest of the day – she found that she had lost 42 pounds.
That’s a lot, huh?
So, does the AtraFen Weight Loss Aid work?
Well, it certainly worked for Melissa, and this is clear, conclusive proof.
That said, there are two things worth bearing in mind here.
1) Don’t take these pills without consulting your doctor first. It’s totally possible that, as safe as they are generally, they could contain an ingredient that you’re allergic to. And that can trigger a nasty bodily reaction.
2) AtraFen Weight Loss Aid is an aid. It can’t do all this by itself but needs you to work with it. What does this mean? Well, if you don’t eat the right amount of healthy food, but instead fill yourself up on burgers and pizzas, the pill will be nowhere near as effective for you as it was for Melissa.
In other words, while AtraFen Weight Loss Aid will certainly help you, there’s still no better way of losing weight than by fixing up your lifestyle.
Melissa knew this. She knew the pill would help her, but she also knew that she had to make the right dietary choices. If she didn’t the pill wouldn’t have worked its magic quite so well.
Melissa McCarthy’s Diet Plan
Melissa actually has a very strict diet plan that doesn’t allow for much variation. It’s pretty repetitive, so if you put yourself on it, you’ll need to be prepared to eat the same thing over and over again.
For example, breakfast each day is scrambled eggs with a serving of chicken or turkey breast at the side. She washes it down with a green smoothie that’s made up of kale or spinach or parsley, chia seeds and almond milk.
That’s tasty stuff, of course, and it’s also healthy and rich in protein.
As a snack between breakfast and lunch, Melissa goes for baby carrots coated with hummus.
For lunch, Melissa has learned to keep things nice and light with a vegetable and quinoa salad that she serves with a couple more slices of chicken or turkey breast. She enjoys this with a delicious cup of green tea.
Dinner, meanwhile, tends to be more chicken or turkey breast, this time with steamed vegetables that she tops off with half an avocado.
It’s a very healthy diet plan that’s super easy to prepare.
As you’ll have noticed, Melissa adds chicken or turkey to each meal. These are excellent lean proteins that your body needs more of. Melissa also eats lots of vegetables and grains, and these are one of the key reasons that she’s been able to lose so much weight.
And if you wondering how the heck you’ll be able to follow this diet plan and stay satisfied, just remember that Melissa was combining it with the AtraFen Weight Loss Aid.
Did Melissa McCarthy Also Work Out?
Melissa knew that AtraFen Weight Loss Aid + a healthier diet would help her lose weight. But to lose even more weight over a shorter period of time, she knew there was something else she had to do.
Indeed, she had to work out.
Now, we know what you’re thinking:
We know, we know. Like many of us, Melissa didn’t do working out. She wasn’t into it at all. She once said how she would jog now and then, but that was all.
But then something happened, something changed: Melissa became a woman with a mission.
And as we all know, once someone is on a mission, there’s pretty much no stopping them.
And so Melissa took to hiring a personal trainer, whose own mission was to help make the actress look fabulous.
Here is what she had Melissa doing:
1) Smith Machine Squats – This one has a funny name, but it really works! It doesn’t work for everyone, but for anyone who is overweight it’s ideal because it prevents you from injuring your lower back (which would not be cool!). Melissa would begin by warming up with the bar only, before adding 20 pounds to each end.
2) The Dumbbell Dead Lift – How are you with dead lifts? Melissa has got pretty good with them, and a key part of her routine is to do 3 sets of 10 dumbbell dead lifts. This work out focuses on her glutes and her lower back, and she’s worked hard to maintain better posture with her exercising.
3) Dumbbell Bench Press – It’s normal to use a bar for this one, but Melissa substituted it for a dumbbell bench press. It worked too, and the actress actually got more out of it, working her shoulders, her chest, her arms and her upper back. Go, girl!
4) Inverted Pull-ups – For this one, Melissa’s personal trainer sets her Smith machine bar to hip height. All Melissa than has to do is lie down (IKR) and then hold the bar with both her hands. Then, she has to lift her body up as close to the bar as she can. This exercise focuses on her chest, her shoulders and her arms.
5) The Farmer’s Walk – Fancy a stroll? Melissa did, so she took two dumbbells and walked around the gym while performing lunges. This easy move helped to burn fat in her glutes and thighs.
Melissa also does cardio from Tuesday to Thursday:
- Bicep curl
- Tricep extension
- Military Press
- Rowing machine
- Leg press
- Bench press
As you can see, this is where Melissa’s weight loss tactics get quite demanding. It’s not just about one little pill that she pops each morning.
Moreover, while there are certain exercises that you can perform at home, you’ll need to join a gym to keep up with Melissa and see similar results (unless you own a rowing machine omg).
So, is that it? Or are there more secrets?
There’s more …
(Bet you’re thinking “how does she still find the time to act?!”)
In this next section, we’re going to take a loot a few tips, tricks and hacks Melissa uses to shed the pounds.
Melissa McCarthy’s Weight Loss Tips and Tricks
Eat Lots of Fibre
From now on, your diet needs to be fibre, fibre, fibre.
And protein. And fat.
But loads of fibre.
Humans don’t actually digest dietary fibre, but the neat thing is that it also stops fat absorption. It can also make you feel fuller, and it can prevent constipation.
Although there’s no indication that Melissa eats porridge, a big bowl of porridge in the morning is a great way to get more fibre into your body. Alternatively, you can eat more apples, lentils and avocados.
Monitor your Insulin Levels
People who want to lose a lot of weight and avoid diabetes talk a lot about insulin. How come?
Insulin is important when it comes to maintaining a healthy body weight and staying healthy overall. When your body doesn’t produce enough insulin – or, worse still, when it becomes insulin resistant – you might find that you pile on the weight.
Essentially, this is what is thought was happening with Melissa’s body before she decided to go on a weight loss mission. Her body just wasn’t producing enough insulin, with the end result being that any unused glucose or blood sugar was stored as fat.
Melissa now monitors her insulin levels regularly – and this is something you should do, too. Remember that obesity is a major reason people go onto develop diabetes.
Drink Lots of Water
Drinking lots of water serves so many purposes. So how come more of us don’t drink enough of it?
Before she put herself on her weight loss diet, Melissa knew she wasn’t drinking enough water, but she’s since learned that, as well as keeping us properly hydrated, water also eliminates toxins from our body, and it can also keep us filled up and prevent us from overeating.
How so? Often, when you think you’re hungry, your actually just thirsty. This is because many of us get our H20 fix from our food. So when your body is thirsty, it tricks you into thinking you’re hungry so that it can get some water off you!
The next time you feel hungry at an odd time, drink a glass of water and see if it fills you up some!
Another great idea is to add a few pinches of lemon to your water, too, especially in the morning. Lemons are rich in all kinds of great nutrients that help to flush out all those nasty toxins that have built up in your body overnight.
Lemon also tastes great too, and can make the idea of drinking lots of water more attractive to you.
Consume Lots of Protein
Most likely you noticed that Melissa’s diet plan consisted of a LOT of protein. Scrambled eggs, quinoa and chicken and turkey are all stuffed with protein. This is because protein is a key macronutrient that is going to help you turn more fat into muscle mass.
Like Melissa, add plenty of eggs, lean meats and quinoa (which is a complete protein) to your diet.
Branch out and try other sources of protein too, including tofu (ideal for vegetarians and vegans), mushrooms and lentils.
Each time you work out, follow it with a post-work out snack or meal that’s rich in protein. This is essential for allowing your muscles the chance to repair properly.
Let’s face it, we all like to snack.
The problem is that, for many of us, it’s the snacks that are causing all the weight gain.
Before you know it, you’ve dipped your hand in that bag of chocolates on your work desk 25 times in the space of an hour!
It happens, and we can easily get carried away. As well as being bad for your hips, thighs and belly, sugary snacks are also quite bad for your teeth.
But snacks are life, right?! So what do we do?
The good news is that you don’t need to give up snacks altogether (yay!).
The bad news is that you will need to change the way you think about snacking, including what you snack on.
Now, this doesn’t have to be as bad as it sounds (admittedly it sounds quite bad at the moment). The first thing you need to do is raid your snacks cupboard and throw everything out – the candies, the toffees, the biscuits and so on.
Then, replenish your stock with healthier options – blueberries, olives, nuts, healthier chips and dips.
Berries, olives and nuts make for great replacements because, like candy, you can dip your hand in and out. In this way, you don’t lose the habit that often made snacking so appealing.
And the taste? Berries, olives and nuts ALL taste amazing. They’re also super low in calories and are fantastic to “gorge” on.
Careful, though – while berries and nuts come with lots of health benefits, if you eat too much of them you could actually undo all their benefits! And that wouldn’t be cool.
Oh, we love this one, and we think you’ll love it, too.
As part of her new lifestyle, Melissa takes lots of rests – and clearly thinks you should, too.
We told you she was a babe!
See, what a lot of people don’t realise is that sleeping can actually help you lose weight. It keeps your metabolism moving by ensuring that you don’t lose too much energy.
Moreover, if you don’t get enough sleep, you might end up overly stressed or overly cranky. And what happens when we get stressed? We indulge in a bit of binge eating (admit it, we all do it).
From now on, treat yourself to more naps. Go to bed earlier – be kind to your body and it will respond in kind.
Drink Green Tea
Okay, so green tea is a bit of an acquired taste. But if you happen to like green tea, or if you think you could get used to it, it’s well worth drinking more of it.
As you’ll have noticed, Melissa drinks at least one cup of green tea per day. Why? Because green tea is rich in powerful antioxidants that kick start your metabolism, reduce inflammation (key to weight loss) and which also help to eliminate free radicals from your system.
Plus, green tea does’t contain too many calories.
And if you really don’t like the way it tastes, the good news is that you can now buy flavoured green tea. It comes with all the same health benefits as regular green tea, but the taste might be more to your liking.
So, there you have it. Melissa McCarthy lost lots of weight by doing the common sense things – eating right, working out and making minor adjustments to her lifestyle, such as sleeping more and drinking lots of water.
Oh, and she supercharged all of this with the AdraFen Weight Loss Aid that she credits as being the real babe here.
