10 Easy ways to burn calories all day long

The only way to lose some serious weight is to eat a healthy diet and stick to a workout regime, but what about the people who don’t like gyms, or those who are just too busy to spend hours a day working out? If you want to burn off some extra calories without breaking into a big sweat, there are ways that you can lose weight without taking time out of your day, or ever stepping foot inside a gym. Adding more physical activity into your everyday routine is the easiest way to burn off some calories, so follow these ten simple tips and you will soon be burning off calories, all day long.

1. Keep your home cool

One way you can burn calories, without even lifting a finger, is to turn down the heating thermostat at home, or turning on the air conditioning more often. When your body is cold, it uses energy and calories to try and warm you up. So, quite simply, the colder you feel at home, the more calories you are burning.

2. Walk more

Another one of easy ways to burn calories is to just walk more. How many times in a day do you take the easy route, when you could be burning calories simply by taking a few extra steps instead? You don’t need to go on a twenty mile hike to burn a few calories, just park your car further from the door, take the stairs instead of the elevator and go for a short stroll at lunchtimes. Add up all those extra paces you would be taking and you will probably find that you could be doing thirty minutes of easy exercise, without even noticing it.

3. Hide the remote control

Would it really be so terrible if you had to get up to switch channels on the TV? Here is another one of easy ways to burn calories: hide the remote control for the TV, or take out the batteries, and then you will have to get up and down several times an evening to switch channels. That would almost be the equivalent of doing a few sit-ups every night.

4. Jump start your metabolism in the mornings

If you start the morning with your metabolism raised, it will stay running at a higher rate for the rest of the day. All you need to do is to wake ten or fifteen minutes earlier, so you can get some light cardio exercises in. If you are using your cell phone or you have a cordless phone, then walk up and down while you talk, rather than just sitting still. Don’t sit still for too long, or it will lower your productivity and it can make you put on weight. Another one of easy ways to burn calories is to get up every so often (for example, every hour) and just walk around for a while, stretch your arms and legs and maybe get in a few exercises while you are up. If you can’t get up for any length of time, then fidget! Even simply moving your legs around under your desk will use up some calories and keep your blood circulating.
