10 Skin care tips for men
It’s not so long ago that men’s grooming products didn’t exist at all and all men had in their grooming kit was: a bar of soap, shaving foam and Brylcreem for the hair. Mind you, most men weren’t averse to borrowing their wives moisturiser and, even, their hairspray, from time to time. Today, though, men are a little less coy about their personal care needs and that includes looking after their skin. So guys, here are skin care tips, just for you:
1. Cleanse your skin using a good gentle facial cleanser
There are more cleansing products on the market other than a bar of soap! You need to wash all the pollutants, dirt and grime from your face, or it can damage your skin. However, plain old soap can also dry out your skin and it can contain deodorisers and chemicals that can irritate your skin. Buy a good men’s facial cleanser instead. It will be gentler on the skin and contain a moisturiser too, if your skin needs it.
2. Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week
This will be a new one for many men. Exfoliating is simply the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, but it has the added advantage for men in that it can make shaving a lot easier too. You only need to wash your face with an exfoliating scrub, twice a week, and it will keep your skin looking fresh, it will clean out your pores and make shaving easier too.
3. Use a good moisturiser daily
Moisturising daily will keep your skin looking fresh and it will stop your skin dehydrating and becoming flaky. It also plumps the skin out and so, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making you look younger!
4. Use a sunscreen to protect your skin
This isn’t so much a beauty treatment as it is a sensible medical precaution. Whenever you are going to spend time outdoors, always apply a sunscreen to your face, even when it doesn’t look all that sunny. Too much sun on your skin will age it and it can also cause skin cancer.
5. Look after your lips and make them kissable
Dry and chapped lips really don’t look attractive and no one will want to kiss them. A touch of lip balm will prevent that, especially in cold, windy winter months.
6. Drink lots of water and you will benefit your skin and overall wellbeing
Drink plenty of water, every day, and it will keep your skin hydrated and looking smooth and fresh. You should be drinking, at least, eight glasses of water a day and it will not only help your skin, you’ll feel better for it too.
7. Eat fresh and clean – it’s a part of your skin care!
Too many burgers, curries and pizzas will play havoc with your complexion. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and include fish in your diet too, because that contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help you to grow new skin cells.
8. Hydrate around your eyes
One of the first places that people start to show the age is around the eyes. The skin around the eyes is very thin and fragile and can easily become dehydrated. Dab a little hydrating eye cream under and around the corners of each eye and it will help stop the lines appearing.
9. Don’t just buy the cheapest products
Splash out a little on your skin care products, it will be worth it! The really cheap products can be very greasy and they will block your pores. They can also contain some pretty nasty chemicals that will irritate your skin.
10. Exercise regularly
Exercise is not only good for your body and your heart; it will also play a big role in how your skin looks. Exercise makes you sweat and that will clean out all the toxins from your pores. It also increases the blood circulation, which will show in your skin.
