10 Things that will happen when you start getting in better shape

Getting in shape is one of those things that many people talk about, but then don’t follow through. If you haven’t taken exercise for some time, then the first thing that’s likely to happen is that you will get sore, and that puts a lot of people off right from the start. But, once you’ve got through that initial soreness, you’ll quickly start to feel the benefits and then, you’ll wonder why you never did this before. If you have taken the decision to get back into shape, then read these ten things that you can expect to happen:

1. It’s not going to be easy!

Take it easy to begin with, you’re not going to be a super-fit athlete after one workout. A mistake that many people make is going mad on their first workout and wake up the next morning feeling so stiff and sore, that they never try again, so start off gently and gradually increase the amount of exercise over a period of time and you will find it easier to stick with your exercise plan.

2. You will need determination

There will be days when you’ll probably want to quit. In fact, there will be quite a few days that you will want to quit! When you first start, there will always be something else you’d rather be doing, but don’t let your determination waiver and remind yourself of all the benefits that you will gain by getting into a great shape.

3. You will get aches and pains

It’s important to take care when you work out and not overdo things to hurt yourself, but even gentle exercise to begin with may make you feel very sore. Don’t be deterred by this though, it’s a good sign. It means that you are stretching and using muscles that haven’t had to do much for some time and now they are waking up again.

4. You will begin to feel more alert

It will only take a week or so, and you will begin to feel the benefits of your exercise. One of the first things that you will notice is how much more awake you are. You will sleep better and you will wake up feeling far more invigorated, than before and, pretty soon, you won’t even notice those little aches and pains any more.

5. You will be able to do more

Everything will become easier to do – walking up stairs, bending and lifting, even doing the household chores. You’ll be surprised at how much difference being in shape will make to the everyday tasks that you do and how much easier they’ll become.

6. You’ll have more confidence

Your new found fitness will show in the way you walk, stand and feel, you will become far more confident in yourself. You will feel a huge sense of achievement in meeting your fitness goals and this will give you more confidence in other areas of your life too.

7. You’ll make new friends

Whether you go to a gym, take up a sport or go walking in the park, you will soon meet people just like you, who are taking the first steps towards getting into shape. Not only will these new friends help and inspire you, they could also become firm friends with whom you have fitness in common.

8. You will be an inspiration to others

When your friends and family will see what you are doing, they will be inspired to get in shape too. It won’t be long before people around you, see what exercise is doing for you and they will want to join in.

9. You will look better and healthier

You will, of course, lose weight and tone your muscles by exercising, but that is not the only difference that you will see. As your body gets healthier, your blood circulation will improve and your new found health will show through your skin and your eyes too!

10. You will get the healthy habit

Getting in shape will change your whole life and you will begin to take the healthy options wherever you can. The healthy habit is the one habit you will be glad that you got hooked on.
