10 Important things only people who work out regularly understand
Getting fit and staying fit, means regular exercise and eating a healthy diet. If you are one of those people who sticks to a regular workout regime, then you will know that it’s not as easy, as it may seem. It’s not so much the physical demands of a workout that can get in the way, as the mental barriers that will make you quit, and that’s just one of the things that people who work out regularly will know; here are ten more:
1. You need the right gear
You need to have the right kind of clothes and footwear if you want to work out comfortably and efficiently. That doesn’t mean the latest trendy gym-wear, that means a good pair of gym shoes and tight fitting clothes that won’t ride up or gape open when you are exercising.
2. There are no quick, get fit, miracles
Regular exercisers may sometimes look in the mirror and long for an instant result, but they know that it’s never going to happen. Toned muscles and a trim figure only come with good diet and regular exercise. There are no quick fixes, whatever some people would have you believe.
3. You need to follow gym rules
Most people who work out regularly have, at least once, thought that they knew better than their instructor or the safety rules of a gym. It usually only takes a couple of mishaps though, before they learn to take the advice of others.
4. Motivation doesn’t come easy
Do you think it’s easy to keep up this routine?! Regular exercisers may make it look easy, but when you try getting up in the morning and going for a run in the pouring rain, or getting yourself down to the gym when there’s a really good film on the TV, it’s not always that effortless. Sometimes, even the most hardened of gym goers found it hard to work up the enthusiasm for another workout.
5. Everyone feels awkward when they try a new class
Don’t think that it is just the newbies to fitness training who feel awkward when they first start. When anyone tries a new class, they feel like that they are the only ones who look uncoordinated and can’t master the moves. That happens to us all.
6. Workout buddies are essential
Experienced gym goers know that exercising on your own is boring and it makes everything much easier to stop early or not put in enough effort. Working out with a friend motivates you to try harder and to work out for longer and it also makes it a heck of a lot more fun.
7. They are plagued with guilt
One sneaky slice of chocolate cake or one missed, class and the regular workout girl is wracked with guilt, well, for at least a few minutes anyway. The important thing that they know though, is not to let one guilty moment turn into a total relapse.
8. It can hurt, but it feels great
Working out should never really cause a great deal of pain, but it can leave you a few aches and a bit of soreness here and there. The important though, is the great feeling of energy and the sense of accomplishment that working out gives you and that is worth any amount of mild discomfort.
9. Changing your routine is vital
It is also important not to follow the same old routine for weeks on end. Varying the routine and trying new equipment or classes is vital to keep up the interest in workouts, if you want to keep it up in the long run.
10. Taking a break from regular workouts is not a good idea
Losing weight and getting fit is not easy and it takes a lot of determination and will power to stick to a routine. What you don’t want to do, though, is to take an extended break from working out, because it can be really hard to find the motivation to get back into your routine after a break.
