What to Look For in a Husband?
So maybe you started to think about marriage and starting a family. But what to look for in a husband? No longer are you willing to date Brad because he has a nice hair cut, and neither do you want to see Jimmy just because he’s in the football team.
Instead, you want to meet the man of your dreams who has the right qualities that any mature, sophisticated man has.
When looking for a husband, a good haircut doesn’t cut it anymore. Hey, we all like a man to have good hair, but what makes a good husband is more than that. What you need is a man who’s going to be by your side for the rest of your life.
As opposed to Brad, who won’t even let you touch his hair in case you ‘mess it up.
As it turns out, there are 10 qualities that a man needs if he’s to be husband material. Let’s take a look at what these are…
10 Qualities of a good husband
This is like super duper important and deserves to be at the top of our list. If a man isn’t honest, he isn’t husband material. It’s as simple as that. Why? Because at no point in your relationship (and marriage) can you be sure that he’s telling the truth. This causes an unstable foundation, trust soon erodes – and things fall apart.
Pretty soon, you’ll start to suspect him of all kind of things.
If a man isn’t honest now, the chances are that he won’t become honest. If he lies about both big and small things, how do you even know he’s the man you love? Do you really know the real him?
So answering that question of what to look for in a husband, honesty is the bedrock for a lasting relationship. A man who is honest knows his strengths and weaknesses and isn’t prepared to hide either. If he makes a mistake, he’ll own it and you can always be sure where you stand with him.
They say that kindness is a feminine quality, and while it’s true that women can be kind, men should be kind, too.
Indeed, it’s not womanly nature to be kind – it’s human nature.
A man must be kind to you. He should be kind to everyone – people of all creeds and ages. The bigger his heart is, the more he is husband material.
A kind husband will be good to you. He’ll surprise you with random acts of kindness and make you feel super special. A kind man is a keeper.
A Sense of Humour
Some women are drawn to the serious and mysterious types, and hey we all like a bit of intellect.
But when a man is too serious and somber and has zero sense of humour? Honey, he isn’t husband material.
One of the most important qualities in life is an ability to have a laugh. So what to look for in a husband? Look for a person with a good sense of humour! If nothing else, a sense of humour picks us up when we feel down and helps us to deal with rough patches in our life.
Men with a sense of humour are great to be around. They’re addictive and they certainly make growing old with a man that bit more appealing.
The Same Values as You
As teen you might have convinced yourself that Brad had the same values as you purely because he was cute, but when you’re looking for a husband it’s absolutely imperative that he shares your values.
You can’t compromise on this one because our values are what define us and guide our decisions. If you’re to enter into marriage with a man, make sure his values match yours. Otherwise, prepare for bitter conflicts that probably won’t be resolved.
What to look for in a husband? Whether you both want children or not is another matter. Regardless of your views on that, it’s important that a husband has family values.
What do we mean by that? It means that family comes first for him. No matter what else he has going on in his life, family is his number one priority and he’ll do all that he can to protect those closest to him.
Family values are also a strong indicator of how loving and dependent he’ll be when or if you two have children together.
Trust should actually be first answer when it comes to what to look for in a husband. Just like you should trust your husband, your husband should trust you.
Without trust there is suspicion. There is conflict, jealousy and anger.
Trust is what stabilises a relationship, and without it a marriage is going to be hugely rocky.
If you can’t do anything without your man questioning it, you’ll find it hard to be happy
A husband must support his wife in what she does. He might not always agree, but he needs to give you his backing when you need it the most.
As women, we must take on new challenges now and then. Doing so can be scary and we need the support of our husband to keep us strong.
If a man unwaveringly gives you his support when you need it the most, he’s the one for you.
For any long term relationship to work, there has to be compromises. You will have to make compromises – and so will your man.
Some people aren’t willing to change, and that’s fine. But these people aren’t marriage material.
If your man shows a willingness to adapt and make changes for you and the sake of your relationship, he’s definitely marriage material.
On the other hand, if he promises to make changes but never does – he probably never will.
This is another good answer to the question: what to look for in a husband. No one should ever throw a hissy fit and back out of a relationship just because our man doesn’t compliment us every day. But a husband will give his woman the compliments she deserves.
A husband doesn’t shy away from showering his wife with nice words. If he thinks she’s the smartest, kindest and most beautiful woman on the planet, he’ll say so.
Good looks, charisma and a great haircut can be the things that draw us to a man in the first place. But for a relationship to work in the long run, it’s important that your man stimulates you intellectually.
Brains and beauty will always be a winning combination. So that you never get bored, find a man who challenges you with his intellect.
