10 Romantic and fun fall date ideas
The summer is over, the leaves are falling, and soon the bitter chill of winter will be with us again. In the meantime, though, we have the romantic season of fall to enjoy. There is something really lovely about this time of year that makes couples hold on to one another as they kick their way through the fallen leaves, or sit together in a park bench. So, don’t let the end of summer bring on the blues, there are still plenty of things to do, both indoors and out. Here are ten great ideas for dates that are just perfect for fall.
1. Have a fall picnic
Picnics aren’t only for the summertime, you know. You still get some warm days in the fall and there are always hats and scarves if it does get a bit chilly. Pack up a picnic hamper with sandwiches, snacks and a thermos flask of hot chocolate, and head off into the open spaces. The evenings at this time of year can be particularly beautiful and you won’t have crowds of people to bother you.
2. Take a drive in the woods
If eating outdoors at this time of year is a bit too adventurous for you, take a drive to a forest and see all the wonderful autumn colours. The trees look absolutely beautiful decked out in their gold, yellow and brown leaves. You could stop off and have lunch in a small village coffee shop, or restaurant, or even stay over the night in a local hotel.
3. Go apple picking
Depending on whereabouts you live, you could take a trip to a local orchard and pick your own apples. There are plenty of pick-your own farms in most regions and apple picking is a great way get a last taste of the outdoors before the winter really sets in. Apples and fall go hand in hand together and, when you get home, you can find your recipe books and cook up some home-made apple desserts together.
4. Stay in and write your joint bucket list
If things do get a bit too cold, then spend a night in and write up a list of what you plan to together in the future. Share your dreams and aspirations and make a bucket list that you can refer to in the future. If you write down all those things that you’d really love to do. One day, who knows, those dreams just might come true.
5. Rake up the leaves in the garden
If you have your own garden, then get your hats and coats on and go out and rake up all the leaves off the lawn. You are never too old to play with the leaves and throw them at each other and when you’re done, you can get back inside to the warm and cuddle up in front of nice hot fire.
6. Check out a fall festival
There are plenty of festivals to visit in the fall and they often include tasty food and drinks too. Festivals are always great fun and there is always so much to see. There are music festivals, beer festivals and farmer’s fairs all over the place, so there is bound to be at least one great festival near to where you live.
7. Try horseback riding
If you really want to see the autumn countryside, then there is no better way to do it than on the back of a horse. Expert or novice, there are riding stables that cater for everyone and a trek into the open country on a horse is a really romantic way to spend an autumn afternoon.
8. Have your own photo shoot
Those wonderful autumn colours make a great backdrop for a photo shoot. The best time of day at this time of a year for photo opportunities is at sunrise, or sunset. It’s then that the sun is low in the sky and illuminates the golden colours with a soft light. Golden trees, piles of leaves, or locations with a view of water, all make the ideal backgrounds for truly romantic pictures.
9. Wine tasting
If you have ever wanted to go to a restaurant and be able to sound like you know what you are talking about when you order the wine, then a wine tasting experience can be a fun and educational fall date for two. Don’t worry if you are no wine connoisseur, there are plenty of wine tasting events for amateurs and you will learn all the basics of wine tasting and how to tell a good wine from a bad one.
10. Take a hot air balloon ride
Up, up and away in a beautiful balloon! The fall evenings are just right to sail above the autumn landscape in a hot air balloon and it’s so peaceful and romantic. It’s that soft autumn light again, that makes it so special. It would certainly be a date to remember.
