10 Amazing date ideas for your anniversary

How will you be celebrating your anniversary this year? Will it be dinner and a movie again, or are you looking for something a little bit different? When you’ve been together for some time, anniversaries can become a bit of a routine and, although there’s nothing wrong with a quiet dinner for two, sometimes it can be good to try something new. If you are looking for some ideas to spice up your anniversary this year, read these ten great ideas for your next anniversary date.

1. Take to the skies in a hot air balloon

This anniversary date idea does depend on the time of year and how you both get with heights, but drifting quietly through the skies in a hot air balloon is a romantic way to spend your anniversary. Take along a bottle of bubbly to keep you company and it will make it an anniversary date to remember.

2. Tour your home towns

Take a trip to your home town and check out the schools you used to go to and the homes you used to live in. You can show your partner all the favourite places that you knew as a child and share some of your childhood memories with him. It’s a great way to get to know each other better and to learn more about each other’s lives.

3. Do something that you know your partner loves, but that you hate

You can really show your love for your partner by arranging to share with him something that you know he loves to do, even if you hate it. Go with him to see his favourite rock band or book tickets to watch his favourite sport. Just don’t spend the whole night telling him how bored you are!

4. Go house hunting

Even if you are not looking to move home in the near future, there’s no harm in dreaming about where you would like to live one day. Visit the show homes of some luxury housing developments and take a look around the dream homes that one day you would like to live in. It can be great fun dreaming for a while and it will give you both something to set your sights on for the future.

5. Make a weekend of it

Instead of just celebrating for a few hours in a restaurant, go away somewhere romantic for the weekend. Stay in a town you have never been to before, turn off your phones and do nothing more than enjoy each other’s company and talk. It’s probably been a while since you spent any real amount of quality time together, so make at least one weekend a year really special.

6. Go on a mini cruise

Cruises don’t have to be for weeks at a time, you can book mini-cruises that last just for just a few nights. You still get the same luxury and romance of being out at sea in a cruise liner, but you don’t have to book too much time off work. A couple of nights watching the sun go down, while sipping champagne on the balcony of your cabin would be a wonderfully romantic way to spend an anniversary weekend.

7. Take a scenic train journey

You can also book some great weekend trips on scenic trains too. Two nights on the orient express, for example, where you can sit and watch the beautiful scenery roll by, while you dine in luxury in the sumptuous dinning car. There is something really romantic about travelling by train; it will take you back in time to the days when all travel was a bit more leisurely and a lot more sophisticated.

8. Renew your wedding vows

Renewing your wedding vow is a special way of honouring your commitment to one another and a reminder of those all-important promises you made, and kept, all those years ago. You could make it a big, lavish, family affair, or you could just keep it simple and private to yourselves. However you decide to do it, repeating those words again can be a very special moment.

9. Visit a festival

Whatever part of the world you live in, there will be a festival of some sort near to where you live. There are religious festivals, art festivals, music festivals, food festivals and beer festivals, so you will be able to find something that you will both enjoy. The fun is in joining in with the spirit of the event and that’s what makes festivals so special.

10. Just jump in the car and go!

Did you always have to plan things so meticulously? Pack a change of clothes and the bare essentials, throw the bag in the trunk of the car and see where the road takes you. You could set out with one destination in mind and end up at a completely different one. Who cares, so long as you have a credit card, you’ll find somewhere to stay. It might do you both some good to throw caution to the wind and just go out and see what you can find.

Stay happy!
