10 Simple things you can do to recharge your mind

Everyone needs a chance to recharge their brains from time to time. When the end of the day is closing in, you’ve done far too much thinking already and now you have to do some more, how do you give your brain that extra boost that it needs? When you do nothing about it that is what leads to stress, so take a look at these ten simple things that you can do to recharge your mind, just when you need it:

1. Nature will help recharge your mind

Sitting indoors all day, in artificial light and air-conditioned buildings saps your brain of energy. A very simple way of giving your brain a boost and to revitalise your thinking is to get out in the fresh air for a while. Reconnect with nature, get some fresh air and some natural light. Even just five or ten minutes of natural air and sunlight will really perk you up.

2. Don’t overwhelm your mind with multitasking 

Stop trying to multi-task. If you try and think of everything at once, then your mind can become overwhelmed with too many thoughts. Multitasking has a hugely negative impact on your productivity, so focus on one task at a time and you will get the jobs done quicker, and with less errors.

3. Take your breaks ‘religiously’

You wouldn’t consider running for twenty four hours as being normal, without taking a break, so why even think about asking your mind to do the same thing? Take frequent breaks during the day, give your mind to recharge and make sure you are getting enough sleep at night too.

4. Drink a glass of fresh orange juice

Orange juice is rich in vitamin C and has been shown to help the body produce essential substances that aid the memory and help you focus. Sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of orange juice, it could be just what your brain needs to recharge.

5. Take a brisk walk

Taking a walk is also known to rejuvenate the mind. One study found that, when people took a walk in the cold, fresh air, their attention spans and their memory were improved by an amazing 20%.

6. Escape with a good book

Reading takes your mind off the day to day stress and it gives you a chance to escape, for a while. Studies have shown that reading a good book can reduce mental stress by over 60%.

7. Have some fun in the bedroom!

Perhaps not the instant antidote to a stressed mind while at work, but physical intimacy has been proven to be a great way to recharge the brain. It reduces stress, cures headaches and it increases blood flow to the brain, thus increasing your brain power in general.

8. Listen to soothing music

Listening to soothing music will relax you and recharge your mind too. There have been many studies into the effect that music has on us, and they have shown that soothing, easy-listening music slows down your heart rate, lowers the blood pressure and reduces stress.

9. Take some exercise and don’t forget to have fun!

Giving your body a workout will give your mind a rest. Exercise causes more oxygen to flow around the body and it releases serotonin into your blood, which calms you and will allow you to think more clearly. A study by the University of Georgia found that exercise positively improves all of your brain functions. And yes, don’t forget to have fun along the way.

10. Mediate/pray

Meditation is another great way to relieve the stress and recharge your mind. It gives you the chance to clear the thoughts that are cluttering your mind and it also reduces your blood pressure and the level of stress hormones in your body.

And of course, one of the most important things that will not only help recharge your mind, but also will give meaning to your life is quality time spent with family and friends.
