12 Natural skin care recipes for beautiful skin

You can spend an absolute fortune on skin care products. Some are specialized products for one particular condition or skin type, whilst others are advertised as being multipurpose. One thing that they all have in common, though, is that they rely on ingredients that can be found in other, less expensive and natural sources.

Your skin is the only organ of your body that is constantly exposed to the pollution and outside world aggressions, so it does need some extra care and attention to keep it in fabulous condition. If you want to save some money, and take a more natural approach to your skin care regime, then try some of our natural skin care recipes and natural beauty products below:

1. Natural face wash or skin cleanser

To keep your skin healthy and to help avoid blemishes, cleanse your skin twice a day with a mixture of honey and plain yoghurt. The combination of the two makes a great moisturizer and cleanser in one and doesn’t cost the earth.

2. Exfoliating

You don’t need to buy expensive exfoliating mask, just mix some baking soda with water or sugar with olive oil for a natural alternative. Exfoliating regularly will remove the dead skin cells, dirt and toxins and will leave your skin feeling fresh and reinvigorated.

3. Refreshing and soothing cucumber face mask

Many people apply cucumber slices to their eyes to get rid of dark circles under eyes, as well as to reduce eye puffiness, and this actually works! But here is another simple way you can use cucumber: apply the cucumber paste all over your face for a refreshing and hydrating boost (or you can also mix cucumber paste with plain yogurt in equal proportions); keep the mask on your face for 5 minutes, then rinse. Cucumber has soothing and anti-inflamatory properties and can refresh your face in minutes.

4. Natural skin care recipe for glowing fair skin

Potato is the prefect home solution to get natural looking and glowing fair skin. Gently rub some raw potato (or a raw potato paste) on your face; leave it on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse. Potato’s slightly whitening action will brighten up your skin, reducing the appearance of dark spots and bring a pretty glow to your face.

5. Moisturizing face mask

Sensitive skin can be irritated by the harsh chemicals in some commercial moisturizers, so try our home remedy: mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of  plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of cooled, cooked oatmeal to make your own natural moisturizing and exfoliating face mask. Mix well all the ingredients, apply on your face and leave for 5-10 minutes, before rinsing it with lukewarm water.

6. Skin astringent

If you have oily skin, then astringent face mask may help. Try mixing 1 tablespoon of lemon pulp, 1 teaspoon of honey, 3 tablespoons of white clay with 4 table spoons of water (you can add more water, depending on the consistency that you like) to create your own lemon face mask. Apply for 5-10 minutes, then rinse.

7. Natural acne remedy

For acne and pimples, blend equal amounts of tomato and cucumber in your blender and apply to your face. Leave it on for about 5  minutes, then rinse; antioxidants in tomato and cucumber will promote healing and help eliminate excess oil from the skin, helping to clear up the infection. Our recommendation to all people who suffer with acne problems – you definitely need to see a dermatologist!

8. Body butter

Treat yourself to a luxury moisturizing body butter, but without the expense. Mix Shea butter with sweet almond oil in equal proportions, add a couple of drops of essential oil of your choice for beautiful odor (rose essential oil or orange essential oil are my favorites); your homemade body butter is ready! You will only need a very small amount of this body butter to moisturize your whole body!

9. Oatmeal face mask

Mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with some warm water to create a paste, add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil; mix well all the ingredients and apply the mask to your face for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. This mask will nourish and hydrate your skin, adding softness and gorgeous glow. (This mask is good for dry and normal skin types).

10. Nourishing avocado face mask

Rich in vitamins A, C, B-6, B-12, as well as calcium, magnesium and iron, avocados have natural healing and moisturizing properties. Mash half of ripe avocado into a paste and apply it on your clean skin for 5-10 minutes, then rinse. If you have dry skin try mixing avocado paste with one teaspoon of avocado oil (if you don’t have it, olive oil will do), apply to your skin for 5-10 minutes and rinse.

11. Sugar lip scrub

Mix 2 teaspoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of olive oil and your natural lip scrub is ready! Gently rub your lips with this yummy sugar lip scrub, leave it on for a minute or two, then rinse.

12. Banana, honey and sweet almond oil

This nourishing face mask will hydrate dry and dull looking skin, adding glow and softness. Create a paste by mixing a half of ripe banana with 1 tea spoon of honey and 1 table spoon of sweet almond oil (or olive oil); apply for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Before trying natural skin care recipes, make sure you are not allergic to the ingredients; first test it on a smaller area before applying all over your face.
