How to be successful? 8 Tips that will help you to succeed at anything

Kids are taught all sorts of things at school these days. They know more about computers, than some adults ever will do, they learn math in a completely different way from how the previous generation learned it, and they learn all the basic skills of reading and writing, as well as other academic subjects that they will need to help them get on in life. There are more important things that you know though, that no amount of academic knowledge will make up for, and one subject that is not on the school curriculum is the basics of how to go about succeeding, at anything. There are some basic rules though, that can be followed to help see you through any project and here are the top eight of them:

1. You need to develop effective time management skills

Most of us learn time management skills from the hard school of life. If you don’t manage your time, then you don’t get things done. To make a success of anything, you have to be able to stay focussed on a task, concentrate your efforts where they are needed the most and you have to learn to work to deadlines, whatever the task in hand might be.

2. Absorb information like a sponge or, in other words, never stop learning

The most successful people in life never stop learning and, no matter how good you think you are at something, there is always someone else who knows a better and faster way to do it. You should always be willing to listen to new ideas and where appropriate, be willing to take on board those new ideas, which will benefit you.

3. Analyze the feedback, listen to what people say

Even in the most simple of tasks, we have to take notice of the feedback that we are getting and be ready to change course, if the feedback is negative. In today’s information age, though, we get bombarded by so much information, the real trick is being able to filter out all the background noise, so that you can see the important messages and act accordingly.

4. Have unshakable determination to succeed together with positive mental attitude

Few things go completely according plan, so you will need determination to see a project through to the end. You have to stick to your guns, even when you feel disheartened and the odds are stacked against you. Don’t give up, embrace the challenge and remember that there always many ways to solve a single problem, stay positive and keep on running until you get where you want to be.

5. Don’t always do it alone

A professional athlete has a coach, an entrepreneur has a whole team of experts behind them and even a rock star has backing singers. If you want to succeed, then don’t be afraid to ask for help, when you need it, you can’t be an expert at everything and you can’t always do it alone.

6. Organize yourself and ACT!

Just as you have to manage your time, you need to organize yourself too. Keeping a clean and clutter free work area is a good start or you will just be wasting time looking for things. Another thing to remember is that successful people don’t rely on memory alone, they take notes, they do make lists and then, they act.

7. Never be afraid of failure, see it as something positive that helps you to grow

Failure is not a lot of fun, we all know that, but you shouldn’t fear it, or you would never start anything. Think instead of what C. S. Lewis once said: ‘Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement.’ And here is what another great mind, Theodore Roosevelt, thinks about failure: ‘Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.’

8. Don’t lose sight of your work/play balance

Having said all of that, you should never lose sight of the need to have rest and relaxation, as well working hard to achieve your goals. Success is of little value, if you have no time to enjoy yourself as well.
