8 Tips on how to start listening to your heart
Follow your heart and you won’t go far wrong. Your mind tells you what you should do, but your heart tells you what you really want to do, and the two are in constant conflict. Your mind, though, is filled with conflicting thoughts, facts and figures, and it will try to figure out a logical solution to a problem. Whereas your heart is the pure essence of your soul, so following your heart may seem illogical at times, but listening to what it has to say can lead you to true happiness:
1. Place your trust in your heart
Your mind has many conflicts of interest. It wants to protect you, it wants to please others and sometimes, it even plays tricks on you, so when in doubt, trust your gut feeling or, in other words, your heart.
2. Put your plans to one side
Don’t let your logical and plotting mind get in the way of your true feelings. So, your heart is telling you to do something that doesn’t fit in with your carefully laid plans, so what?! Lay your plans to one side from time to time and follow that impulsive streak for a change. A detour from your route won’t stop you from getting to your final destination.
3. Don’t over rationalize
Don’t spend all your time thinking over all the ‘ifs, buts, and the maybes’. Just follow your heart. If you really studied all the dangers and negative potential outcomes that surround your everyday life, you’d probably never get out of bed! Your mind will always find a reason not to do something.
4. Give your heart a chance to speak to you
The voice of your heart is a quiet one, whereas the voices of your mind are often like a crowd of people all shouting at you at once. Give the gentle voice of your heart a chance to come through clearly by relaxing, and putting all those shouted thoughts out of your mind for a moment or leave the decision until tomorrow and sleep on it.
5. Be open to new ideas
Be open to new possibilities, your heart will often surprise you. Whilst your mind is trying to make sense of all that data and trying to come to the logical conclusion, your heart is looking at the bigger picture and it might come up with something that you hadn’t even considered before.
6. Let your mind be the adviser and your heart be the decision maker
The president has many advisers, but he still makes the final decisions himself. Let your mind give you the options and let your heart choose which one to follow.
7. Listen to your heart
When your heart tells you something, listen to it. Don’t let your mind over rule your heart, follow your instinct and do what you feel, not always what you think others would like you to do.
8. Have the courage to follow your heart
Following your heart can take a lot of courage. When all around you are saying one thing but your heart is telling you another, it can be hard to stay true to yourself. But, even if things don’t work out, you will be far happier knowing that you followed your heart, rather than just did what someone else to you to do.
