10 Reasons why you should start loving yourself

Forget all the images of the so called perfect women in the magazines and movies; it has more to do with a technician’s skill with Photoshop, than with natural beauty. In the real world, we are all different and not a single one of us is perfect. So stop trying to be someone else’s idea of perfection and concentrate on yourself instead, and read these ten reasons why you should love yourself:

1. You are a work of art

You are unique, one of a kind, a work of art made by nature. There’s no need to try and look or behave like someone else, so just accept yourself fully and completely and start loving yourself for who you really are. Be proud of your achievements and it will have many positive effects on every aspect of your life.

2. Loving yourself will make you a stronger person, so that you’ll be able to achieve any goal

You find a hidden strength in yourself, when you start to love the person that is you. You will begin to believe that you can overcome any obstacle and achieve any goal. You will find that you are actually stronger, than you think.

3. Loving yourself will help you to enjoy life more

When you can be comfortable in your own skin, you will be more relaxed, more confident and more able to enjoy life. Loving yourself is important to your mental wellbeing, which will, in turn, give you the incentive to look after yourself physically too.

4. People like people who love themselves

People like to be in the company of a self-confident person and they don’t want to spend too much time with someone, who constantly puts themselves down. Love yourself and people will love you and they will want to spend more time with you.

5. You don’t have to please everybody

When you love yourself, you have no need to impress other people. You can take that statement the other way around too. Stop trying to please everyone else and you will begin to love yourself. If you rate other people’s opinion of a higher importance, than your own, then you are not giving yourself enough credit. Their opinions are no more important, than your own, so trust in your own inner filling and follow your heart.

6. You are just as deserving of your own love, as other people are

Why shouldn’t you love yourself? You love your friends and family, so why shouldn’t you feel this way about yourself? There are probably things that you don’t like about your family, but that doesn’t stop you from loving them, right? Love yourself in that very same way, with a bit of forgiveness now and then.

7. Try saying ‘I love you’ or, at least, ‘I like you’ to yourself; it’ll brighten your day!

You might not want to try this walking down the street, but saying ‘I love you’, out loud to yourself can have real psychological benefits. What better way to cheer yourself up after a bad day? Try it at home, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face.

8. You need to love yourself, before you can love anyone else

It’s a cliché, but it’s true. It’s really hard to fall in love and have a deep and meaningful relationship with another person, if you don’t already love yourself. It will also be harder for someone to love you, if you are filled with self-doubt, self-criticism or even self-loathing.

9. You will be more attractive, if you love yourself

It’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy; you think you are unattractive, so you become unattractive. If you love yourself, then you will treat yourself to new clothes, you will look after your appearance and you will simply exude a sense of self-confidence, happiness and of fun, that others will find simply irresistible.

10. Learn to love yourself and you will be a happier person

Loving yourself really will make you a happier person. Remember, there is no such thing as the perfect person, and what one person sees as attractive, another does not. Loving yourself is not about being selfish or showing off, it’s about accepting yourself for who you are and, when you can do that, you can truly start to be a happy person.

Stay happy and love yourself!
