10 REASONS TO START DOING THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY BEFORE YOU ARE TOO OLD

10 Reasons to start doing things that make you happy before you are too old

The hardest thing to find out when you get a bit older is that you are looking back with regret. When you see your life as a series of ‘nearly did’, ‘could have done’ and ‘wish I had’ type of phrases, you can’t go back and change things. None of us likes to think about getting older, but it comes to us all, so making the most of life while you can is so important. Sometimes, we’re so busy looking after others, that we forget to look after ourselves, so here are ten good reasons why you should start doing things that make you happy, before it really is too late:

1. You only live once

You only get one shot at it, so make the most of it while you can. You’ll make mistakes and there will be good times and bad times, but without wanting to sound depressing, the clock is ticking for all of us, time is the only thing we can’t buy.

2. Tomorrow never comes

There’s no tomorrow and there’s no yesterday, there’s only now and today. In other words, you can’t change the past and you can’t foretell the future, so, if there is something that you want to do, do it today. There won’t be a better time!

3. Go out of your comfort zone

Go out of your comfort zone, take some risks, do things that make you happy now, while you’re still young enough to bounce back again if something doesn’t work out. The older we get, the less likely we are to try anything new, so now’s the time to do it!

4. Make time for the people you love

The clock is ticking for everyone, your friends and family included. Be sure to spend time with them, especially children, before you know it, they won’t be children anymore.

5. Think what your life story is going to be

Imagine that you’re making a movie of your life. What it’s going to be?…an adventure story, a love story or perhaps a heartwarming tale of generosity and kindness? Or are you going to have nothing to tell your grandchildren? Do things that make you happy now!

6. It’s OK to be selfish from time to time

There’s no reason why you shouldn’t spoil yourself sometimes, so go on that trip that you’ve already dreamed of or try skydiving if you want to. Loving yourself as much as you love others is what will give you the experiences that memories are made of.

7. Don’t get caught up in the rat race

We all need to earn money but you can’t take it with you. Make the most of fun times and let the rat race go from time to time. You might work most of your life, but you still should make the time for things that make you happy. Don’t forget to have fun and play.

8. You’re not too old yet!

Come on, you may have a few aches and pains in the morning, but, we all get that. Get yourself out of bed and do those things that you know will make you happy!

9. Retirement is too late

In some ways, we are conditioned into thinking that we should work hard and save for retirement; and that retirement is the period of our lives when we will have all the spare time that we need to pursue our interests, do things that make us happy and take up hobbies. Let’s be honest, when you reach that age, you’ll probably want a rest! So cram all that you can in now, don’t wait for your retirement!

10. Live life to the full, whatever your age

We don’t like stereotypes, but most of enjoy different things at different ages. We play when we’re kids, we rebel when we’re teenagers and we relax when we retire. Power to the sky diving grandmas out there, but for most of us, we have to do what we can when we can, because we are only that age once.

We hope that you found these thoughts somewhat motivational and that now you have enough reasons to start doing things that make you happy.

Stay happy and enjoy life!
