10 Amazing Inspirational Quotes To Live By

Do you ever have those days where you wake up feeling under the weather? There are things you need to do, but you just can’t summon the motivation or energy needed to do them.

I have these days infrequently, but when they come along, boy, do they frustrate me! Sometimes I can’t even summon the motivation to get out of bed, and when I do get out of bed there doesn’t seem to be a point to anything.

Living without inspiration is terribly constricting. Without inspiration, there would be no art, no positivity, no creativity, no imagination, no feats of greatness – and no happiness. Inspiration is the backbone to all of our greatest achievements, and without it life would be monotonous and trite.

I keep inspirational quotes pinned to my wall to keep me inspired when my spirits are flagging. Here are 10 amazing inspirational quotes to live by:

“Don’t cry because it’s over – smile because it happened.”

     – Dr Seuss

I love this quote! Children’s author tend to be very wise people who are endowed with the gift of expressing complex thoughts simply. And Dr Seuss in particular was full of wisdom that always hit the spot.

Yes, it is sad when something good ends, be it a relationship or a holiday. But dwelling on it only stops you from moving forward onto other great things. It keeps you rooted in the past.

So instead of weeping for things past, celebrate the fact that you experienced such joy.

And remember – if you experienced joy once, there is nothing to suggest you won’t experience it again.

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

     – Nelson Mandela

How many times have you said “it’s impossible, I can’t do it”? Plenty of times, I bet!

We all have. But have you ever stopped to think about the amount of times you’ve done something you thought you couldn’t do?

We’ve all climbed mountains. Remember this the next time you say you can’t do something.

“What we think, we become.”

     – Buddha

Do you think the greatest people in history became great because they were negative? Do you think Beyonce become a mega-selling pop star because she believed she couldn’t? Do you think Meryl Streep won Academy Awards because she hated herself?

Absolutely not! Great people become great because they think great. They believed in themselves and though positive thoughts.

Put it this way: If you constantly think negatively, you will become a negative person. The first step to greatness is changing the way we think.

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”

     – Norman Vincent Peale

Success starts with belief. If you don’t believe you can do it, you won’t do it.

If you can believe it, you can do it.

It’s that simple.

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

     – Francis of Assisi

Francis of Assisi is often quoted in Italian-American gangster movies, but there is a good reason for it – he was an inspirational figure, and a very wise man.

I personally believe that nothing is impossible. I even still believe in Santa. Why? Because the moment you start telling your children that Santa doesn’t exist is the moment you put a cap on their beliefs. You start limiting their imagination by telling them “No, everything is not possible.”

Everything is possible. Start believing it and you will go far in this life.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

     – Gandhi

I used to be really guilty of criticising others without actually doing anything to change myself. But Gandhi is so right here – we must lead by example.

If you want your friends to become more tolerant and compassionate, show them the way. Show them tolerance and compassion. The best way to change attitudes and beliefs is by you being the first to show change. You will be amazed by your power to influence others.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

     – Steve Jobs

Nothing bugs me more than people telling others not to change jobs. This is especially true of partners who don’t encourage their spouses to push themselves.

“Don’t change jobs because we need the money, and besides you’re good at what you do. Know your limits.”

Sure, money is important. But so is personal happiness. If you’re going to spend so much of your time at work, you may as well do something you love. Don’t listen to the naysayers – go out there and be the best you can be.

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

     – Milton Berle

A friend of mine recently popped into my office and asked me what this quote meant. I have it tacked to the wall next to my desk.

I can’t say for sure exactly what it means, but my interpretation of it is that opportunities don’t come to those who sit around twiddling their thumbs. They come to those who prepare in the right way, and take action by creating the right breeding ground for an opportunity.

In other words, people who build doors are those who are preparing for opportunities to come knocking.

“What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.”

     – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Actions certainly speak louder than words. And indeed the only thing that separates a successful person from an unsuccessful person is that the former took action, while the latter preferred to keep talking.

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you can never see the shadow.”

     – Helen Keller

Lastly, don’t let life get you down. Take the positives from every experience and focus on the good things. Whatever you water is what grows. Pay attention to the positives and your life will be positive.

Stay happy!
