10 Inspirational Movies That Can Inspire You To Follow Your Dreams
Can a movie really motivate you to take action and do something with your life? You bet it can! In this article, we take a look at 10 movies that can inspire you to follow your dreams.
In this age of Netflix, far too many of us return home from work without a clue as to how to spend our evenings. We don’t know what to eat for dinner and we don’t know what to watch on TV.
We text our friends or post a shout-out on Facebook: “What should I eat and watch tonight?”
Then, we spend an hour flicking through Netflix before finally deciding to watch the worst movie ever. Then, we do the same thing the next night!
So many movies leave zero impression on us. We just watch them to pass the time. Every now and then we’ll come across an awesome thriller that holds our attention and makes us scared to even go into the kitchen in case the murderer is in there! But again, it’s just entertainment that passes the time. What if we told you there are ten inspirational movies that could potentially change your life? Yup! Just like a book can change your life, so can a movie. We’re not talking about a cheap sci-fi on HBO at 1am. We’re talking about life-affirming, inspirational movies with characters who rose to the top against all odds.
And you know what? Yes, it’s a movie. But art often reflects life. The characters in these films can serve as the inspiration YOU need to take control of your life and be a success. So stop watching cheap, forgettable thrills on Netflix and check to these 10 movies that can inspire you to follow your dreams:
The Pursuit Of Happiness
Some people made their minds up about The Pursuit of Happiness before it had even been released.
“Oh, it’s Will Smith and his son. It’s a gimmick. It will be terrible.”
Those same people clearly have mindset problems. They’re too negative and cynical. If you share that outlook, this movie – and indeed life itself – won’t inspire you. If, on the other hand, you’re far more positive and optimistic, The Pursuit of Happiness, with its themes of persistence, endeavor and dreams, will speak to you. The key takeaway? Never give up. Winners succeed because they keep going.
Good Will Hunting
One of our favourite films, Good Will Hunting tells the beautiful story of a beautiful mind that is caught in a struggle between two worlds. Gifted mathematician Will Hunting is a genius with a mind to rival Einstein – but a mood and disposition to rival Tyler Durden. Watch as he tries, stumbles, and tries again to find his true calling in life.
It’s A Wonderful Life
If you watch It’s A Wonderful Life and don’t realise that life is a precious gift that we should be thankful for every day, then you are dead inside. LOL.
This is one of amazing, inspirational movies that teaches us the power of the ripple effect. It shows us that even our smallest decisions can have tremendous consequences on those around us. If you live your life the right way, help others and help yourself, your life will be all the better for it.
Eat, Pray, Love
Probably not a film to watch with your boyfriend, Eat, Pray, Love is very much a movie aimed at women with the message that you should never ever just settle for something because you think you should. In the film, Julia Roberts plays a middle-aged divorcee who is lost and confused. Instead of soldering on with the same routine, she breaks free from her comfort zone and goes travelling the world to discover her purpose.
Pay It Forward
Ever heard someone say to you that they’re going to pay it forward, or that you should? Paying it forward simply means helping others, and in so doing you help yourself. Small – or big – acts of kindness transform the world. They improve other peoples’ lives, but they also improve yours. Watch the film and see what love, positive energy and kindness you can offer the world.
The ultimate film about a boy/man who overcomes obstacle after obstacle to literally do more in his life than mostly anyone else. Tom Hanks plays Forrest, an unassuming young man who says yes to everything – and triumphs because of it. Whatever is put in in his way, doesn’t matter. Forrest just forges on ahead regardless – and wins. It’s a film about just doing. Less thinking, more action and more results.
The Shawshank Redemption
What do you do when things don’t go your way? How do you react when you’re the victim of injustice? Our success doesn’t hinge on the things that happen to us – we often can’t control them. Instead, it hinges on how we respond to them. In The Shawshank Redemption an innocent man is dealt a massive Joker: He’s sent to prison for the rest of his life for something he didn’t do. He could either cry about that for the next few decades and grow old and resentful. Or, he could respond like a stoic, staying calm and focused on his goal – to escape. He chooses the latter option and gets the heck out of there!
It’s a proper man’s film, but it doesn’t matter – we had to include it. Rocky is a true motivational, rags to riches story that get anyone pumped and driven to work on the goals before the film has even finished!
Into The Wild
We were a bit unsure of including this one because of the way it ends. But Into The Wild is a beautiful movie about living life on your terms. It’s about following your heart, no matter how much it might alienate you from your peers. It’s about being yourself and having the courage to do whatever it is you want to do.
Sharing a faintly related theme to the film above, Billy Elliot is about a young boy ballerina – practically unheard of in working class northern England!
Billy is mocked by his friends and told to quit ballet by his parents. But he ploughs ahead, success and fulfills his dreams. Inspiring.
