10 Fun things to do during your ‘me time’
You will no doubt have heard how important getting a bit of quality ‘me time’ can be, how we all need some time on our own to distress, chill out and just indulge ourselves a little, but just what do you do with that time, now that you have made it available? Don’t waste what precious little ‘me time’ you have; make the most of it, and fill it with things that you will enjoy. If you have run out of ideas for those moments that you find yourself on your own, here are ten things that could try during your ‘me time’.
1 Go out for a walk
Getting into the fresh air and enjoying a bit of nature is one of the best ways to alleviate stress and boost your mood. It also gives you a bit of time to clear your thoughts and think things through properly. A walk around your local park could be just the thing you need to make the most of your time on your own.
2. Treat yourself to a nice lunch out
Who says that you need to be on a date to enjoy fine food in a restaurant? Spoil yourself with a slap up meal in a fancy restaurant and indulge in some fine wine while you eat it too. You could dine at your favourite place, or try some new cuisine. It’s your moment, so it’s your choice, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy the food too.
3. Go and explore somewhere new
This is another one of fun things to do during your ‘me time’. You might not have the time for a trip abroad, but you could get in the car and go and explore the next town down the road. It will still be a bit of an adventure and you will have new shops to look around and different places to have lunch. Just breaking the usual routine and being in different surroundings will seem like a breath of fresh air.
4. Go on a shopping spree
When you do get some time yourself, it’s the ideal time to go shopping. You can visit as many shops as you like, try as many things on as you want to, and there will be none else there to rush you along or make you go somewhere you don’t want to. You don’t even need to spend any money; just wander around and take it all in.
5. Release some of your anger
If your boyfriend has let you down, or your friends are driving you mad, your ‘me time’ could well be the best time to let go some of that pent up aggression. Take it out on the equipment at the gym, or even better, start taking kick boxing classes and get it all out that way. Have a good rage and get it out of your system while you are on your own.
6. Take a long hot bath
One of the easiest ways to relax in your ‘me time’ is to take a nice, long, hot bath. Fill your bath with hot water, add some bubbles, light some scented candles, put on some soothing music and lay back and relax your troubles away. It’s such a simple way to spend some time, but with no one around to bang on the door and ask if you are finished yet, you can make it a really special time.
7. Read a good book
Escape for a while into the realms of a really good read. Reading is very relaxing and it takes your mind off the daily stresses of life, so kick off your shoes, lay back and immerse yourself in a different world for an hour or two. So many people get out of the habit of reading, and they are missing out in so much. Your ‘me time’ could be your chance to rediscover the joys of a good book.
8. Try some new recipes
Another one of fun things to do during your ‘me time’ is cooking. If you have a few hours to yourself, you could use the time to hone your culinary skills. You don’t even need cookbooks, these days, just look up a recipe on Google, and give it a try. You can make as much mess as you like in the kitchen, and experiment with ingredients. Even if it doesn’t turn out right, no one will know except you.
If you have never tried meditation, you might think it sounds a bit weird, but more and more people are turning to mediation as a way of relaxing and calming their minds. You can go to meditation lessons, or buy a book on the subject, or you could just try it on your own. All you need to do is to sit in a comfortable position. Concentrate on your own breathing, and try to clear your mind of all thoughts. Give it a go; you might be surprised at how easy it is to do.
10. Write a journal
Keeping a journal can be very therapeutic; it helps you to organise your thoughts and understand your feelings better. It’s also a way to record your memories and it can be great fun looking back on them in the future.
