10 Fabulous tips how to start your day positively

When you get up in the morning, how do you feel? Do you bounce out of bed, excited at the prospect of a new day, or do you pull the blankets over your head and wish it would go away. Most people don’t really feel their best first thing in the morning and not everyone was born to be a morning person, but if you really loath the mornings and start the day on a low note, then you are likely to feel that way for the rest of the day. Take a look at these ten simple steps that you can take to make you feel more positive in the mornings and you might just learn to love your alarm clock!

1. Make a plan the night before

If you take ten minutes in the evening to make a plan for the next day, you won’t wake up worrying about what you have to do, because you will already know exactly how you plan to tackle the day. You won’t feel so panicked about the day ahead when you have a plan, so you will be able to enjoy your mornings a lot more.

2. Keep a positive ‘to do’ list by your bedside

Keep a note of your plan by your bedside and keep a pen there too, so that, if you do wake up in the night worrying about something, you can make a note of it, so that you don’t forget it in the morning. Remember to note down what you are aiming to achieve in the day as well, so that when you wake up, you can look at your list feel totally in control and ready to go.

3. Wake up earlier

Getting up, just a little bit earlier in the morning can help improve your mood and make you feel more positive. Just an extra ten minutes to get ready and to compose your thoughts could make all the difference to how you feel for the rest of the day. If you are not rushing around, you will be able to think more clearly, perhaps get a few jobs out of the way, and you might even begin to enjoy those early hours of the day.

4. Don’t press the snooze button

The more times you hit the snooze button, the worse you are going to feel. Each time you do it, you drift back off to sleep again, which will make you will feel even groggier and tired the next time the alarm goes off. You are also reducing the time that you have to get ready and a rushed start to the day won’t help you feel positive at all.

5. Count your blessings

Starting your day with a bit of gratitude will put you in a positive frame of mind too. When you start the day by saying thank you for the good things that you have in your life, it will help put the other things into perspective and make you focus your mind more on the important things that you have. If you lose sight of what is really important, it becomes easy to exaggerate the minor irritations that you might have to deal with.

6. Get some exercise

Not everyone feels like an early morning run, but even a little bit of exercise will make you feel more positive. Just a few star jumps, or a bit of running on the spot, will get your heart rate up and the blood circulating around your body. It will chase away the last cobwebs of sleep and get you motivated and alert for the rest of the day.

7. Eat breakfast

Seriously, do you need to be told again how important breakfast is?! A healthy breakfast will give you the energy that you need to face up to the day and it will get your metabolism started again. Don’t rely on coffee to do that, because, come mid-morning,  you will be feeling tired and sluggish again, so make sure you leave enough time every morning for a good, protein rich breakfast and you will feel a lot better for it.

8. Listen to some music

Music is a great way to lighten the mood and wake you up, so put on some upbeat music to listen to, while you get ready to go out. Not too heavy and jarring, though, something light that will put you in a positive mood. You’ll be surprised at just how much difference some background music can make to your mornings.

9. Break the routine

Revamping your morning routine can make a big difference to your positivity too. Don’t get stuck in a rut of doing all the same things in the same order, give yourself time to try some new things in the mornings. Even small things like changing what you eat for breakfast or switching to a new radio channel, can make the morning’s seem a little less dull.

10. Think positive thoughts

Make a conscious effort to think positively about the day that has just started. Don’t dwell on the negative things that may have happened before, think and about all the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. No one can be 100% sure what the day holds in store for them, so be positive, your next run of good luck could be starting today.

Stay happy!
