10 Amazing morning habits that will empower your day

What you do, first thing in the morning can set your mood for the rest of the day. So, if you start your day rushed, panicked and in a foul or negative mood, then that is quite likely how the rest of your day will continue. If you want to learn how to put yourself in the right frame of mind for a more productive and less stressful day, read these ten morning habits that will empower your day:

1. Wake up earlier

No surprises with our first point! Waking up an hour or two early gives you more time to prepare for the day, more time to wake up, and the whole morning will become a less stressful experience. Try it and you’ll find that, once you get used to it, it’s amazing how much you can achieve with a couple of extra hours on the day.

2. Eat a proper breakfast

Now you’ve got that extra time, you can make sure that you get more than just a cup of coffee for breakfast! If you skip breakfast, your body doesn’t get the nutrients and energy that it needs and that can affect your mood for the rest of the day.

3. Plan your day

Take some time to map out your plan for the day. Visualising what you have to do and how you are going to react to the situations that you know you will face will make you better prepared, stronger and more efficient.

4. Put on some upbeat music

Listening to some uplifting music can really lift your spirits in the morning and give you enthusiasm for the rest of the day. People usually tend to play music that reflects their current mood and forget that music can actually change your mood. So, even if you do feel tired, some energetic and upbeat music will give you a lift.

5. Take some exercise

Get some exercise before you start work or cycle your way to the office, and you will feel a whole lot more positive and empowered for doing it. Exercise gets the blood flowing, the heart pumping and it releases the feel good hormones into your body. Even if all you do is take a walk, it will help to energise you for the entire day.

Getting some light and fresh air into your home can make a huge difference to your mood too. Opening a window, even just for a short time, or going for a walk, will wake you up and fill you with more positive emotions.

7. Express your gratitude

When you wake up, fill your mind with the things that you can be grateful for. Don’t dwell on the negative aspects of your life, they will pass anyway. Instead, count ten things that you can be happy about and thank God that you have them!

8. Look forward and not back

Look forward to what you can change today and not what you can’t change from yesterday. No one can turn back time and change history, so thinking about past misfortunes is simply a waste of time and it will drag you down.

9. Remind yourself of your goals

Looking at the larger, longer term goals that you have can also inspire you. Remind yourself of the big things that you are working toward and then, the little steps that you have to take along the way to achieve that will seem more meaningful.

10. Don’t start working too early

The extra hours that you’ve gained by waking up earlier are for you, not for your job. Don’t sit down and check emails the second you wake up. Give yourself a bit of time to prepare yourself first and then you will be better armed to deal with work.
