There is nothing that can shake your confidence more than the occasional appearance of a pimple. However, many women, no matter the age, suffer from more severe breakouts. Sometimes this can feel like an endless cycle. You clear up one breakout just as a new cluster of facial spots start to appear. While those miracle cleaners help your skin calm down, sometimes they can be doing more harm than good. So, home remedies for clear skin are the way to go, especially, if you’re a girl who loves natural products. It’s fun to try out all of the DIY face masks and treatments that are made from items we generally have around the house. However, not all home remedies are created equal. We have tested a good amount of home remedies, so you don’t have to. From the ridiculous to the simple; here are the best ones that will help to keep your precious skin clear and blemish free.

  • Honey DIY face mask

Every major skin care brand has jumped on the trend of facial masks. These masks are made to target specific skin problems and are marketed as being the holy grail of skin care. But, we’ve found the best masks are the ones we make ourselves. To make this acne clearing DIY face mask, you only need a few ingredients:

  • Green tea bag
  • Raw honey
  • Cinnamon

Start by steeping a bag of green tea in hot water. Green tea will add moisture to your skin, while reducing redness. Get yourself a bowl and add two tablespoons of raw honey, which is a natural antibiotic and does wonders, when it comes to killing germs and bacteria living deep in your skin. Add in one teaspoon of cinnamon, it will help blood circulation on your face, which encourages the production of new skin cells and collagen. Apply a thick layer of your blended mix to clean and dry skin, and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. Doing this treatment two times a week will reduce breakouts and help the appearance of dark spots and acne scars. Winner!

  • Old School Astringent

This pimple trick I have been using since I was a kid. It was a tip that my mother gave me and it still works for me today! The best part is that it is a one step process. Take a cotton ball and soak it in witch hazel. Then simply use this as an all-over face astringent and refresher, or you can use it as a spot treatment. Pull a little piece of cotton off and apply it directly to that painful pimple. Witch hazel is not only a natural astringent, it is a natural way to remove excess oil from deep in your pores, which will help prevent future breakouts, it’s one of the most simple, yet effective natural home remedies for clear skin.

  • Spot Drying Treatment

Drying treatments are all the rage when it comes to sucking the life out of those pesky pimples. But, have you ever looked at the price tags? Those little miracle jars can run you a hefty penny. So, why not make one of your own natural home remedies for clear skin? Grab an old foundation bottle or jar and clean and sanitise it thoroughly. In a bowl, mix a few tablespoons of water with a few drops of tea tree oil. Then, slowly pour in some pink calamine lotion until the mixture thickens up. Then, using a small funnel, fill up your empty container with this mixture and leave it to set overnight. The result will be your own homemade drying lotion that works to shrivel up even the plumpest of pimples. For best results, use this lotion as an overnight spot treatment.

  • Fancy Up Your Ice

Sometimes clearing up acne can be as simple, as treating the redness and swelling first. Nothing can help reduce inflammation more than a plain and simple ice cube. But, why stop there? Why not make a tray of fancy ice cubes and use them at the end of the night, after removing that mask of makeup. Grab an ice tray and fill it up with purified water. This is where you can get a little creative. Try adding a drop or two of different oils to each cube. Tea tree oil, lavender oil, camomile oil and even peppermint extract are excellent choices. If you are feeling even fancier, opt for dried lavender instead of oil. Applying these cute cubes directly to your pimple will help calm it down, while also treating the problem beneath the skin.

  • Sweet Scrub

A secret to keeping acne at bay is to remove the dead skin cells living on the surface of your face. Harsh acne cleansers kill bacteria but they also dry out the healthy oils sitting on your skin, which can lead to flaking and dry patches. So, how do you break this vicious acne cycle? Scrub it away! Start out with some organic raw sugar and add some freshly squeezed lemon juice. For extra measure, add a teaspoon of honey or olive oil. These will help to add softness back into your skin. Gently massage this mixture into your skin and watch as those dry patches disappear!

  • Open and Close Those Pores!

No treatment will be able to effectively help your skin, if it doesn’t go deep enough. We know…we all want to keep our pores tight and small. But, when it comes to treating acne, you need to open them up and let them breathe. Start out by gently steaming your face by boiling a pot of water. Once the water is hot enough, remove the pot from the heat, place your face over the pot and drape a towel over your head to trap in steam. Once your pores are nice and wide open, you can try one of the natural home remedies for clear skin we have described. This will help the skin healing ingredients to penetrate your skin even deeper. It is also equally important to close those pores after you have finished your treatment. This will prevent bacteria from finding its way deep into your skin, which can cause more breakouts. To do this, simply rinse your face with ice cold water or quickly wipe your face with those cute ice cubes that we talked about earlier.  The cold will shock your pores causing them to shrink and close up. This will also trap moisture under your skin, so that your skin will naturally glow.

Fresh Face: Fresh Attitude

Beauty is skin deep, or so people say. This saying is infuriating to most people, because the skin does not make the person. However, we all relish in the idea of having the perfect airbrushed skin. Acne is frustrating and sometimes soul crushing. But, trying product after product, not knowing what half of the ingredients are can be equally as frustrating. So do yourself a favor and give one of these natural home remedies for clear skin a try. Just remember, the purge is very real. Generally youe skin will flare up with more breakouts up to two weeks after starting a new treatment. DO NOT PANIC! This is your skin simply purging bacteria that was trapped deep. After the purge ends you will be left with clear and healthy skin. If you have a severe case of acne, we recommend consulting a doctor instead of any self treatments.
