10 Makeup tips on how to do beautiful smokey eyes

The smokey eye look is a dramatic and head turning makeup look, which really makes a statement, when you walk into a room. Look in any magazine at the moment and you are sure to see a model or celebrity sporting the beautiful smokey eye look, so if you want to join them in this trend, read our ten tips on how to do smokey eyes:

1. Start with the rest of your face first

Our first tip on how to do smokey eyes makeup is – start with your face. Your eyes are going to be the crowning glory, so leave them until last. Apply foundation, blush etc., but remember to keep your cheeks and lips on the light side, it’s your eyes that are going to provide all the drama.

2. Prepare your eyes

Next tip on how to do smokey eyes is – prepare your eyes first by applying an eye primer, or a light shade of concealer or foundation to work as a primer. Apply to your under eye area and the lids and then, give it some time to dry and it will act as a base for the shadow, which will prevent creasing and make your makeup last longer.

3. Line your eyes

Next, line your eyes, both top and bottom, with a black eyeliner pencil, corner to corner, keeping it as close to the lash line as you can. To get it closer to your lashes, use your finger, to gently move it right up to the line.

4. Apply the black eyeshadow

Apply a black eyeshadow with a brush or a sponge tip applicator, directly above the pencilled area; smudge and blend with a clean brush, your finger or a Q-tip.

5. Apply the lighter eyeshadow color

Now you’ve added the black eyeshadow, you can add a lighter shade of brown or gray eyeshadow over your eyelid for that pretty smokey eye effect, so that your black gradually turns into light gray or brown. Starting at the lash line and moving towards the crease of your eyelid, smooth and blend it out for a softer, beautiful and gradual smokey eye; then add white or light champagne color to the inner corners or your eyes and under your eyebrow, to create that multidimensional, pretty makeup look.

6. Curl your lashes

Curling your eyelashes is another important secret of those who know how to do smokey eyes beautifully. You’ve paid all that attention to doing a great job on the eyeshadow, so finish the look with a little work on your lashes. Curling your lashes first will make your eyes stand out and give you that ‘eyes wide open’ look.

7. Add plenty of mascara

After you’ve curled your lashes, give them a generous coat of mascara; wait a little and then give them another coat or two to create that beautiful, smoldery drama effect. To keep the curl in your lashes for longer, try using waterproof mascara, they seem to hold the curl for a lot longer, than the usual one.

8. Add a bit of flair to your smokey eye look

Spice up your smokey eye creation by coloring the tips of your eyelashes with some golden, silvery or other colored mascara or add a bit of shimmer to the center of your eyelid. There is no obligation to use only black, gray and brown colors for beautiful smokey eyes, use whatever colors you like, it’s your creation, so go wild and get artistic!

9. Tidy up

Nearly done, but before you go, here is another important tip on how to do smokey eyes – don’t forget to tidy up, check for any fallout or smudges, there’s been a lot of makeup going on here! Brush away any fallen eyeshadow with a fan brush and clean any smears with a cotton pad.

10. Stand back and admire!

Last job, take a step back and admire your handiwork. Check that you haven’t missed any smudges, add any final touches and you’re ready to go, you smokey eye temptress!

I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
