Whether or not there is any truth behind the myths, as amateur for ourselves, but here are 12 meanings behind gemstones, that many people so believe:

1. Diamond

The fire inside a diamond has long made it the most treasured of gemstones. It is also the hardest stone known to man and it is this toughness that has made it a symbol of perseverance and longevity. Perfect then, for an engagement ring and they are also said to strengthen the properties contained in other gemstones.

2. Amethyst

A member of the quartz group of stones, amethysts are well known as being a powerful stone, which is said to be the stone of sobriety and spirituality. It calms the mind and brings you in touch with your spiritual side. The ancient Romans and Greeks also believed that it could stop you getting drunk.

3. Pearl

The pure, milky white of a pearl inspires purity and honesty and helps people get in touch with the simple things in life. They are also said to encourage stable and long lasting relationships.

4. Amber

Although classed as a gemstone, amber is actually fossilised tree sap, which is why sometimes it can contain the preserved remains of long dead insects. Amber is believed to have the power to clear the mind and promote optimism.

5. Carnelian

Orange to red in colour, carnelian as said to have been used by wizards to strengthen the potency of their magic potions. It protects people from bad vibrations, calms their temper and helps them find focus.

The beautiful, green emerald is known as a protection stone, which can also help you become prosperous and successful. It is also a stone of harmony, which can soothe a troubled mind and promote harmony in your life.

11. Sapphire 

Sapphires speak of wisdom, purity, dignity, devotion, sincerity and faith. The stone is also said to promote joy and peace of mind. Sapphire is called the stone of destiny by some and is said to help fulfill your dreams and desires.

12. Ruby

Ruby – the stone of power, love, harmony, passion and vitality. Ruby is believed to give power to fulfill your dreams, give guidance in making right decisions, it speaks of strength, power and noble character.
