This isn’t true of course – it’s simply your misguided perceptions. Dismally, our perceptions can often override reality and distort the truth. We associate so much misery with eating spinach that we believe spinach really is the worst thing EVER. The reality? Adjust your perceptions, reset your brain and you will realise that not only is fruit and veg super healthy for you – it’s also exciting, colourful and tasty! Think Of The Wonderful Colours!
Picture a hamburger. It’s brown, maybe even black if you’ve burnt it too much. Whatever, it looks the colour of soil and dirt. In fact, brown is most peoples’ least favourite colour. It’s a depressing, dismal and gloomy colour. So why do so many of us think a burger looks appetising?! Contrast a burger with a rainbow salad. In this salad is cucumber, sweet potato, beetroot, quinoa, avocado, red and yellow peppers and seeds. It’s bursting with all kinds of colours, from orange to purple! It looks amazing. It looks bright, vibrant – and healthy. And it looks so much better than that greasy, brown burger that looks like the piece of dead meat it is. Now, what would you really rather have?
Make Sure Healthy Food Is Readily Available
This is another important tip on how to make healthy food choices. As humans, we like things that are easily available. In other words, we like having takeaways that are just a phone call away, or a snacks cupboard in the kitchen. If you’re feeling peckish, you want food that is readily available and doesn’t take long to prepare. So make healthy food accessible in your house! Clear the junk out of your fridge, and replace it all with healthy food. Eventually, your brain will lock onto the idea that healthy food is great because it’s quick and easy. It’s the new fast food!
Research The Food
Imagine if your brain knew that green tea can help you lose weight, blueberries can starve off cancer, and nuts give you energy? Imagine also if you knew that spinach (which you hated as a kid) is stuffed with irons and that broccoli can make you smarter? The more you know about the food you’re eating and its advantages, the more excited your brain will be to eat it! It might even get excited about Brussels sprouts (though that’s probably pushing things a bit too far).
Make Things Pretty

Referring back to the boring, brown burger, it’s important that you make your healthy food as attractive and presentable as possible, so that it’s a feast for the eyes for your brain. Buy gorgeous plates. Garish your salads with colourful flourishes. Top your soups off with basil and coriander. Pack your bowl of oatmeal with strawberries, blackberries and mangoes. Bring colour and life to your meals and your kitchen.

Sometimes, it’s hard for us to love healthy food unless we have a powerful enough “Why”. What is your reason for adopting a healthier diet? For many people, it’s because they want to get, well, healthier! Starting from today, you need to constantly tell new stories to your brain. Once your brain has been trained to associate with healthy food with wellness, vitality and the good life, it will start to love it more and more.

No one can love healthy food if all they have to look forward to are celery sticks and cauliflower. To make sure that healthy eating is fun, you have to add some treats into the mix. Treat yourself now and then to some seasoned sweet potato fries. Enjoy some frozen banana as a tasty replacement to ice cream. Indulge in dark chocolate each week (dark chocolate is good for you!). You can have more than a square!
