How to get rid of acne on your back?
Acne is bad enough when you have it on your face but not infrequently, the infection spreads to the neck, chest and back. The basic steps to take when dealing with this often painful condition are the same as you would do for acne on your face: good hygiene and regular moisturising. In case you’ve never had acne on your face but are now fighting with the body variety of the condition, here are some tips you can use.
1. Scrub gently
When you have back acne, exfoliation becomes even more important than it has been before. So our first tip on how to get rid of acne on your back is to use a loofah or an abrasive sponge to exfoliate, but mind that you shouldn’t do it too harshly, otherwise you’ll only aggravate the acne. Also, don’t overdo the shower gel and if possible, switch to a shower oil. Acne may be caused by increased sebum production (plus a bacterial infection), but it will do you no good if you dry out your skin. In fact, this will only make things worse.
2. Eat right
Another important tip on how to get rid of acne on your back is to eat right. Though it may not have been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that certain foods have a contributing role in acne, it’s always a good idea to stay on the healthy path. With time, we may develop sensitivities that we didn’t have before, and one of these may be a sensitivity to chocolate (sorry about that) or fried chicken, for instance. In any case, these are foods you can do without, or at least you can try and eat them less often.
3. Avoid the sun
Many people believe that the best cure for their back acne is to lie in the sun and let its rays take care of them, by literally burning them. If you think about what we now know about solar radiation, more specifically UV rays, you’ll quickly see why this is not such a good idea. If anything, the UV rays will aggravate the condition, and that’s in addition to an increased risk of developing some kind of skin cancer and making your skin age faster.
Another tip on how to get rid of acne on your back is to use salt. Sea salt, more precisely. There are two ways to make use of the beneficial effects of sea salt. If you’re lucky to be living near a beach, make a habit of dipping in the water whenever the weather allows. If not, buy some sea salt from the supermarket and treat yourself to a salty bath. You’ll need a couple of cups of salt mixed in the water. Researchers believe that the effect of sea salt on acne may have to do with its tendency to stop the spread of bacterial colonies.
5. Olive oil
Now on to some homemade remedies that you can find in every kitchen. Olive oil is good for so many things, and acne is one of them. Here is our tip on how to get rid of acne on your back: treat yourself to an oil massage, using a back scratcher with a washcloth, on which you’ve put a sufficient amount of olive oil. Massage it on the areas affected by acne, let it stay for a five minutes before wiping any remaining excess. There’s a pretty good chance that your skin will soak in everything.
Oatmeal is a natural moisturiser and it also has a soothing effect on irritated skin, which is why it’s often used in masks for skin irritations. Another tip on how to get rid of acne on your back is to either use oatmeal in a mask (with honey, for instance) or make yourself an oatmeal bath. For this, you need three tablespoons of finely ground oatmeal and a piece of cloth to put the treatment in. Then put the oatmeal in a bathtub filled with warm water and and lie in it for about half an hour, remembering to squeeze the bag with oatmeal from time to time to release the juices.
7. Lemon juice
Another tip on how to get rid of acne on your back is to use freshly squeezed lemon juice. Lemon juice is a pimple exterminator but it’s not the gentlest on the skin. If you feel brave enough or sick of seeing your acne-stricken back in the mirror, squeeze a lemon and apply the juice directly on the areas with acne, with a sponge or a cotton pad. It will burn for a bit but that’s because it will be burning the hell out of your pimples though not in the aggressive way that the sun will. Let the juice work for half an hour, then rinse it off and apply some moisturiser or a little bit of olive oil. If you’re not perfectly happy with the results after one treatment, repeat in a couple of days.
8. Egg whites
Egg whites are one of the easiest homemade face masks there can be – you just need to whisk them a bit, then apply. The same goes for the back and the chest, wherever you may have acne. You don’t need to whisk till they foam, just one minute of easy whisking is fine. Then apply either on a cloth, which will act as a sort of compress, or using your hands. Let it stay for 20 minutes. It will get itchy as the whites start to dry and tighten your skin but bear it. Egg whites are rich in proteins and collagen, which will regenerate your skin. The drying effect will take care of the infection.
