How to grow thicker, longer hair? 10 Simple tips

How quickly your hair grows, and how thick it grows, can depend on many different factors and there is no one single, scientifically proven way that you encourage your hair to grow. What you can do, though, is to take good care of your hair, provide it with the nourishment that it needs, and avoid some of the things that can make hair thin out. Some people are simply born with hair that grows thicker than others, but anyone can improve the look and the texture of their hair and give it a helping hand to grow. Here are ten great tips on how to look after your hair and encourage it to grow thicker and longer.

1. Handle your hair with care

Hair is a lot more fragile than you might think, and you would be surprised at just how much hair you can lose if you treat it harshly. Every time you twiddle with your hair when you are bored, when you yank out a tangle with a brush, or you zap it with heated tools set at the highest temperature, you can damage your hair, or you can pull some out. Be gentle with your hair and it will naturally grow thicker and longer, all by itself.

2. Use sulphate free shampoo

Your shampoo could be damaging your hair too, so go for the most natural shampoos that you can find, and don’t over-wash your hair. Shampooing every other day should be enough for most people, and look for sulphate free shampoos, because they contain less of the harsh chemicals that can dry out and damage your hair.

3. Keep your hair well-conditioned

Dry hair means brittle hair, and brittle hair means breakages and hair loss, so keep your hair well-conditioned at all times. Use a conditioner on your hair after every shampoo and use a deep-conditioning product, or mask, at least once a week. If you keep your hair well hydrated, it will look a lot better and grow a lot faster.

4. Brush your hair the right way

Did you know that there is right and a wrong way to brush your hair?  Brush your hair regularly, going all the way from the top to the bottom, and this will distribute the natural oils evenly in your hair. Use a wide toothed comb to gently get rid of tangles, don’t yank them out with a brush, and be extra careful when your hair is wet, because it will be far more prone to breaking.

5. Use a hot oil massage once a week

Massaging your hair with a hot oil treatment once a week will give it the deep down condition that we were talking about, nourish the hair, and the massaging will also encourage the blood circulation in the scalp and to the follicles. You have plenty of oils to choose from; there is olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, argan oil and many others too. If you don’t have a particular favourite, try a few different ones, and then you will get a good range of all the nutrients that they contain.

6. Eat a hair-healthy diet

You can buy supplements that are designed to promote the growth of hair, but it’s far easier and a lot more natural, if you just follow a hair-healthy diet. Eat plenty of protein and foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and nuts. There is also an amino acid that promotes hair growth, called cysteine, which is found in eggs, nuts, seeds, oats, and wholegrains.

7. Keep your hair free of product build-up

It’s also important to keep your hair and your scalp free from product build up. Hair products leave a residue behind, even after shampooing, and that can build up on the hair and clog up the scalp. Wash your hair weekly with a clarifying shampoo to remove this build up and the moisture and nutrients from your conditioners will be able to nourish the hair better.

8. Egg hair mask

You can feed your hair protein, from the outside, with an egg hair mask. Simply beat up two eggs and apply to the hair, Leave it on for around thirty minutes and then wash it out with lukewarm water and shampoo. It might be a bit messy, but it will give your hair the vital protein that it needs to grow long and strong.

9. Flax seed hair rinse

Using a flax seed hair rinse is another natural way that you can feed your hair from the outside and encourage healthy growth. Soak three tablespoons of flax seeds in water and then apply the solution to your hair and scalp for about thirty minutes. Flax seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which will help make your hair grow thicker.

10. Avocado hair mask

Avocados are another great way to condition your hair naturally, they are rich in natural oils and they contain Vitamins A, B and E, which will feed your hair and strengthen it. Mash up the flesh of two ripe avocados, massage it into your hair, and leave it to sit for about thirty minutes before you wash it out again.

Stay beautiful!
