7 Wonderful home remedies for dry, damaged hair

Many people today occasionally complain of having dry hair. Exposing your hair to the sun, pollution, harsh hair products and going through stress are some of the main causes of dry hair. However, you don’t need to worry about having dry hair since you can make it shiny and moist at home. A lot of people have managed to get healthy and beautiful hair by using simple and natural home remedies. Here are some of the home remedies for dry hair that you can try:

1. Mayonnaise! Sounds gross, but YES!

Using mayonnaise on your hair might sound gross, but it’s a great way to pamper and condition your dry hair. Mayonnaise has some important ingredients, which are very beneficial for the beauty and health of your hair. Protein and oils help to rebuild, strengthen and moisturize the hair, making it shinier, glossier and softer. Just apply mayonnaise to the roots and length of your hair as a hair mask and keep it on for about 30 minutes, before shampooing it out and conditioning.

2. Coconut oil is the champion of gorgeous and healthy hair

Coconut oil is extremely good for dry hair and it’s one of the best home remedies for dry, damaged hair! It penetrates, moisturizes, rejuvenates dry hair, helps to nourish and conditions it. Apply coconut oil to your hair, leave it on for one hour or overnight and wakeup up with healthy hair, glowing with shine, beauty and health.

3. Water is also in!

You might wonder why we included water in our list of home remedies for dry, damaged hair…Water is the best moisturizer for dry hair! Put some water in a spray bottle and spray a little on your hair to keep it moist throughout the day. Many people usually think that water contributes to dry hair, but this is not true! A good useful tip is to mix water and some olive oil (or other natural oil of your choice); this mixture can then be sprayed on your dry hair, but don’t forget to shake the bottle before spraying!

4. Hot water is a NO NO!

To make your dry hair soft again, avoid washing your hair with hot water. Hot water increases the dryness of the scalp, which can lead to scaling and flaking of the scalp, hence the dandruff! Instead, you should use lukewarm water and shampoo your hair once or twice a week. Washing your hair too often is also not beneficial for your locks, as it gets rid of oil retained in the hair follicles making your tresses look extremely dry and unsightly.

5. Hot oil is a YES YES!

Another good home remedy for dry hair is a hot oil treatment. Massage you scalp using hot oil and spread the oil to the length of your hair, it will nourish your locks, add softness, glossiness and shine. Keep in mind that even though this treatment is often called ‘hot oil treatment’, the oil shouldn’t literally be hot, make sure that it is just slightly warm and comfortable to touch. You don’t want to burn your hair, do you?! For hot oil treatments you can use these oils or mix them up: coconut oil, olive oil, argan oil, castor oil, linen oil, rose hip oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, macadamia oil, sesame seed oil, etc.

6. Egg and linen oil

Apply a beaten egg mixed with two tablespoons of linen oil (or use another oil of your choice) to your hair and wash out after 30 minutes. This simple hair treatment, especially if done regularly, will transform your hair into amazing mane, adding softness, nourishment and shine!

7. Honey, rose water and avocado hair mask

This wonderful, natural hair mask will help nourish dry and damaged hair, adding softness and shine. Mix one ripe avocado with two tablespoons of honey and five tablespoons of rose water in your blender. Apply it to your hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes, then wash and style as you wish.
