14 Fabulous tips on how to make your hair thicker

Open up any magazine and you’ll be greeted with images of models and celebrities with big smiles and thick, luscious locks of hair. But the reality for most girls is a bit different, and the truth is that with all the effects of changes in hormones, a lot of stress, various illnesses and just the day to day hassles of life, many women find themselves with hair that is just not as thick, as they would like it to be. Here are 14 simple, yet effective tips on how to make your hair thicker:

1. Use quality products

Go for the best volumising shampoo that you can find. They contain ingredients that can add moisture to the strands of your hair and make them look more luscious and thick.

2. Massage your scalp

Regular massaging of your scalp will help to improve the blood flow and circulation and this, in turn, will improve the rate of hair growth. Massage your hair with oils, such as coconut oil or olive oil (you can also add couple of drops of peppermint oil); do oil massages on a regular basis and you will see an extra inch of growth and improvement in thickness.

How to make your hair thicker? Try massaging your scalp with this mix: combine 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 tablespoons of burdock root oil (if you don’t have it, use coconut oil instead) and add 2 tablespoons of honey; massage your scalp for couple of minutes in circular motions with this hair thickening mix and leave it on your hair for 30 minutes. Scalp massage will improve blood circulation, making your hair grow faster and get thicker, while vitamins and nutrients will nourish your locks, improving hair softness, as well as thickness.

3. Protect your hair

Be gentle with your hair when washing and brushing and be sure to protect it from too much sun and cold wind, which can dry out your hair very quickly.

4. Avoid brushing when your hair is wet

How to make your hair thicker? Don’t brush it when it’s wet, wait until your hair is nearly dry and always begin at the ends and work your way up to avoid damaging your hair. Brush your dry hair for couple of minutes once or twice a day to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp and spread out natural oils.

5. Condition the ends of your hair

Apply volumising conditioner from midway to the ends of your hair and avoid conditioning the roots and scalp, as this will only weigh your hair down.

6. Don’t wash your hair every day

Washing your hair every single day strips out all the natural oils and leaves your hair looking limp and unhealthy. Washing every other day or every 3 days is better and it saves time too!

7. Limit the heat

For really thick hair, you need to limit the use of hair straighteners and blow dryers, which just damage your hair. If you really need to use heat on your locks, then try using a heat protection product before you do.

9. Hair vitamins

If you wonder how to make your hair thicker, you need to start watching your diet. A healthy diet is the key to healthy hair. You can also enrich your diet with specialised supplements and vitamins that are tailor made for skin and hair, but they do take some weeks before you will see any improvement. To chose your supplements and hair vitamins consult your doctor.

10. Calm down

Treat yourself; try to relax and make sure you are getting enough sleep, because too much stress can affect your hair and even cause hair loss.

11. How to make your hair thicker? Do “thick hair” mask

Mix one ripe avocado with one banana and add 4 table spoons of fresh Aloe Vera gel (use your blender to achieve smooth consistency). Apply this mask to the roots and spread all over your hair, leave it for 20-30 minutes before washing off. Vitamins and nutrients of these wonderful, natural ingredients will make your hair thicker and healthier.

Here is another variation of “thick hair” mask: beat one egg, add 2 table spoons of honey, 3 table spoons of Aloe Vera gel and 2 tablespoons of Vodka; massage this mask to the roots of your hair and leave it for 20-30 minutes, then shampoo and condition your hair. This mask will stimulate natural hair growth, nourish and will make your hair thicker and healthier. Do this mask once a week and see wonderful results.

Make sure your aren’t allergic to the ingredients of these hair masks.

12. Shampoo your hair with an egg

Did you know that you can shampoo your hair with eggs? Eggs contain big amounts of protein and are great for making your hair thicker. Just beat 2-3 eggs in a bowl and wash your hair with it, as you would do with your usual shampoo; leave this nourishing egg treatment on your head for 3-5 minutes, then rinse (no need of shampooing) and condition your hair as usual. You don’t need to shampoo your hair after this treatment. If you worry about egg odor, usually it disappears after you’ve applied hair conditioner. If you do this egg hair shampooing once or twice a week (you can alternate egg shampooing with your usual shampoo), you will see wonderful results: your hair will get thicker, healthier and glossier.

13. Clip in hair extensions

Have you ever tried using clip in hair extensions? Well, if not, we definitely recommend you to have a look. Clip in hair extensions can instantly add thickness and volume to your hair. This wonderful modern invention can save you a lot of time and effort. Clip in hair extensions are affordable, natural looking and, most importantly, they don’t damage your hair! Only make sure to chose hair extensions that match your hair color, as well as texture. Clip in hair extensions are easy to find, they are available in many online shops, as well as in local hair and beauty salons.

Ahh this is so helpful! Such good tips! Love love love it! Thank you so much for writing this! I’ll definitely be having a go at these! Honestly since my hair started thinning a few months ago I’ve been so panicked and confused as to why it was happening. If I’m totally honest – I’m quite vain and I’ve always loved my hair so I’ve been really worried about keeping my curly locks! Plus my confidence has just massively dipped since it’s been happening and I really want to get myself back feeling more confident again! I don’t know if this is the place to ask for advice or not, but basically my friend recommended getting a wig made, and apparently you can have small pieces and extensions to cover up certain thinning parts of your hair without completely covering all your own hair (and I’m definitely leaning towards this option). So when she told me about this I did some research and everything and read about a company called Optima Hair – this is them: optimahair.co.uk (they’re located near where I live). I’m just wondering really if anyone else has used them at all? They look good but I don’t know much about it if I’m honest so I’d appreciate any advice or recommendations people could give me before I bought anything (as my mum always said – better to be safe than sorry)! X

Please help. My hair has always been my pride and joy. I figured since it is pretty damn healthy, it could deal with some bleach damage. And I figured the master stylist who did all the color-corrections would know how much would be too much. I was wrong, and now I want to burst into tears every time I look at my hair or touch it. I just don’t know what to do. my hair has also NEVER been shorter than this and it breaks and falls out. What should i do to regrow hair?

Howdy fantastic website! Does running a blog like this require a great deal of work? I have no expertise in computer programming however I had been hoping to start my own blog in the near future. Anyhow, should you have any recommendations or tips for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off topic but I just had to ask. Appreciate it!
