10 Fun Activities To Do This Season

Nobody actually for real likes the winter, right? When Old Man Winter shows his face, most of us run indoors from the terror (and the cold).

Facing the colder months is difficult if you dislike prolonged spells of darkness. It’s a time of the year when you can’t hit the beach for another few months, and when just a bite of ice cream could cost you your life because it’s just SO cold.

And don’t get me started on those days when your partner leaves the window open because he’s “warm”.

OMG how can anyone be warm during the winter??

I normally dislike winter, but it’s something all of us have to get through. Moreover, since it lasts for three months (though feels like a LOT longer), we have to find something to do to fill the time. Otherwise, we’ll just go completely crazy.

So if you’re looking for some fun activities to do this season that will get you from out under your duvet, we’ve got 10 excellent ones for you. Let’s take a look!

Host Your Own Film Festival

Movie tickets can cost a considerable amount of money, but the worst thing about going to watch a movie at the cinema during the winter is that you have to go outside. Into the cold. If you’d rather just stay indoors and watch some movies, why not invite a few friends over and host your own film festival?

You can pick your own movies, invite whichever friends you want, and put together some awesome snacks and treats. It can be as cozy as you want it to be!

And since it’s the winter, hot chocolate is a must.

Help Out

Not all the activities on this list are indoor ones, so I might as well warn you now. This particular one is very much an outdoors one.

Basically, the winter brings with it some extreme conditions that can wreak havoc with a person’s life. For example, your neighbours driveway might get snowed under, to the extent that they can’t clear it by themselves in time for work. So why not give them a helping hand?

You could also pop down to the local soup kitchen and help feed the homeless who are cold and in need of some warmth, nutrition and friendly company.

There is a whole lot of help you can provide during the winter, which is arguably mankind’s most testing season when community spirit counts a lot.

Send Christmas Cards To People

I’ve always enjoyed mailing Christmas cards to family and friends – it’s a tradition that my mom kept up for years, and which I continued. I think it’s a great way of letting people you still think about them, even if you guys haven’t spoken for a few months.

You could also handmake your own Christmas cards. This will take up a bit of time, though, so try not to sell yourself short by making too many!

Go See A Holiday Concert

What cheers me up about the winter is that at least Christmas falls during this season. Yes, I LOVE the holidays, and I’m sure that you do, too. And I think a really fun thing to do during the holidays is to go and see a holiday concert.

You won’t need to look any further than your local town/city centre for a holiday-themed concert. Maybe your local church is even putting on a performance. It could be anything from a full orchestral arrangement to a pantomime. Either way, why not get into the festive spirit by popping along?

Go Camping

Okay, this one really is for you who love to get out from underneath your duvet and challenge yourself at this time of the year.

I’ve listed camping because it’s always cheaper during the off-season (winter), and it really is so much fun when you’re with your friends lighting warm fires, drinking beer and wine, eating great food, and generally enjoying being alive under a cold, starlit night sky.

Camping is extra cosy during the winter, too. The roar of the fire cheers everyone up, and you get to snuggle up with your partner inside your tent at night.

Go Sledding

If it’s been snowing and you’re itching to get outside, why not call some friends up and go sledding together?

You could finish the day with a cheeky snowball fight!

Have A Board Game Night

If it’s snowing outside and you really don’t fancy heading out doors but still want to have fun, why not call up any friends who DO want to brave the cold and have a board game session?

Even the fiercest stick in the mud loves a board game night. You can have prizes for the winners – and forfeits for the losers!

And if you think you don’t have any board games in the house, check your attic – I’m sure you’ll find one or two!

Go Visit Somewhere Enchanting

Winter automatically makes places more magical. If you’ve ever seen photo’s of a snowcapped Prague at daybreak, you will know what I mean.

So why not go out and visit one of these spellbinding places this season?

Top picks include Prague, the German markets in Germany itself, Lapland, New York City, and Edinburgh.

Sing Christmas Songs On The Karaoke

Singing Christmas songs on the karaoke isn’t something you can really do during the summer. Well, you could do it – but it would be weird!

During the holiday season, you’ve literally got no excuse NOT to belt out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” after you’ve enjoyed one too many cocktails.

Go And See Santa!

If you’ve got kids, this one is a MUST. But even if you’ve not got kids, you can relive the magic of the festive season that you used to enjoy when you were little by offering to take along a nephew or a niece to see Santa Claus.

The best thing about this one is that seeing the bearded legend himself is totally free, and because he sits in a mall it means you can do other fun suff with your day once he’s sorted out a gift for your little one. You could go and grab some food, some coffee, and of course – go shopping!

Stay happy!
