10 Fun things to do this weekend
It’s so easy to get into a rut at the weekends. There are probably lots of things that you’d like to do, but they are so expensive, so you end up staying at home watching the TV and then complaining about how there is nothing worth watching on the TV! It doesn’t have to be that way, because there are thousands of things that you could do at the weekend that don’t cost a fortune and will still be great fun. Don’t waste your only two free days in a week, check out these ten great ideas for fun things to do this weekend that won’t put a big hole in your finances.
1. Go fly a kite
Whether or not you have any kids, flying a kite is till great fun. It will get you out into the fresh air and you can have hours of fun watching your kite soar high into the sky. You could even try making your own kite at home. It’s pretty easy to do and there are plenty of instructions on how to make a kite on the internet.
2. Invite the neighbours around for a drink
Another one of simple and fun things to do this weekend is to invite your neighbours, they are probably sitting just a few feet away as bored as you are, so why not invite them round to your place for a few drinks? You might even get a little bit of that community spirit going and get the ball rolling on some more community events in the future. Getting to know our neighbours is always a good idea. You can then help each other out with things like keeping an eye on someone’s home when they are away, or helping out any elderly residents in the neighbourhood who live on their own.
3. Go to a farmers market
You can find some amazing fresh produce at a farmer’s market and it will probably cost you half as much as you would have paid in a supermarket. Look through your local newspaper, or browse online, and you will find a farmer’s market somewhere you near to you. You can wander around the stalls, grab a few bargains, and often, the food stalls give away free samples of their produce too.
4. Check out your local theatre
One of cool and fun things to do this weekend is to check out your local theatre. There is probably a local community theatre nearby that you have never even been to. The productions may not be as lavish as a Broadway musical, but amateur productions can be surprisingly good and the tickets won’t be very expensive at all.
5. Break out the board games
Have a day of playing board games and bring back some of those childhood memories. There are so many different games to choose from. You have Chess, Backgammon, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, or snakes and ladders. If board games aren’t your thing, a simple pack of playing cards will give you lots of different games that you could play.
6. Have a baking competition
Challenge your partner to a baking competition. Get the mixing bowls out and see who can bake the best cake or the tastiest batch of cookies. Don’t worry about the mess in the kitchen, because the loser will be the one who has to clear it up! Cooking together can be great fun and if you add a bit of friendly competition to the mix, it will be even better.
7. Clean out your closet
If you really have nothing to do, then make that time productive by having a good clear out of your wardrobes. You could finally get the chance to remove all those clothes that you never wear and put them to good use by taking them to a charity shop. Someone can make use of the things that you don’t need and they are not doing anyone any good hanging at the back of your wardrobe.
8. Go out for a picnic
Another one of great and fun things to do this weekend is to pack up a picnic hamper and head out to the countryside. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, you can still enjoy a picnic out in the fresh air, even if is a bit on the chilly side. You could go to your local park, into a forest, or drive to your nearest beach. If the worst comes to the worst, you could always enjoy your picnic sitting in your car.
9. Learn something new
Another good idea of fun things to do this weekend is to broaden your horizons by using your free time to learn a new skill, or perhaps study for a new qualification. You could learn a language, learn a craft, or go to classes and learn how to dance. You are never too old to learn something new and who knows where it may lead. You could end up with a new hobby, new friends, or even a new career.
10. Get active
A lot of people are too busy to get any exercise during the week, so make the most of your weekends and do something that will be good for you as well as fun. Go for a walk, join a sports club, go swimming, or go on a bike ride; there are so many different sports that you could do. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring and repetitive and there will be something for all ages and abilities available near to where you live.
