How to know if a guy likes you? 7 best ways to test his interest
How do you tell if a man is really interested in you or just being ‘nice’? If you can’t work out whether your crush is thinking the same as you or just trying not to be rude, it can seem almost impossible to find a way to test the water without running the risk of appearing to be a complete fool. The last thing that you want to do is come gushing out with your feelings and emotions to him only to be confronted with a rather red faced guy stammering out the words: ‘I’m really flattered, but………’.
To make things a bit easier and, potentially a lot less embarrassing, we’ve compiled a few tips for you on how to know if a guy likes you and how to test his interest. Let’s begin:
1. Do some undercover research
Before you make any move at all, a bit of research won’t go amiss. Ask around a bit and try and find out if he’s available; he might be with someone, married or even gay! A few discrete enquiries should tell you if you have any chance at all and word might even get back to him that you’ve been asking, so you could be killing two birds with one stone.
2. How to know if a guy likes you? Watch the eyes!
The eyes are the window to the soul, or so they say. More importantly, if you gaze at him across a crowded room and he gazes back, you know you’re in with a chance. If his eyes quickly move on to something more interesting, it might be time to give up on this one.
3. The proximity experimentation
We all like our own personal space and, generally, we only like to share that space with people we know or like. One easy test of interest is to get closer to him next time you sit together. If he fails to move over to make space for you, but keeps that slight contact as it is, he might be sending you the message that more physical contact would be welcome.
4. Get personal
In conversations with strangers we tend to steer conversation away from anything personal, but with someone that we are interested in getting to know better, we are more willing to open up a little. Drop a few personal points into the conversation and see if he follows up on it or, if he swiftly moves on to another topic. Take your time though and don’t get too personal too soon, he still may not be interested.
5. Find some common ground and drop some hints
You’re not being too forward asking a guy what type of music he likes or what type of movie he watches. When you find out, make a mental note and go away and do a bit of research, then you can come back a few days later and mention, in passing of course, that you’d love to go and see that latest blockbuster movie but that you hate going to the cinema on your own, and see what would be his answer to this… 😉
6. Gauge the sympathy vote
Men love to be the knight in shining armor and galloping the rescue of a damsel in distress, so lay things on a bit thick for him and tell him how you can’t get to work tomorrow, because your car’s in the garage and see, if he comes to the rescue. This would be one of the signs that he likes you. Another good one is telling him how badly your ex treated you; if he says: ‘I’d never do that to you’, then you know that you’re getting somewhere.
7. Just be blunt and ask
If all else fails, then ask! You don’t have to be so blunt as to ask whether he finds you attractive or not, that could be a bit awkward, but you could ask if he is single and looking for a relationship. At least, then you’ll know if you’re wasting your time.
Men are surprisingly shy when it comes to asking someone out, especially in situations where they didn’t expect to meet someone. They may full of bravado in a nightclub but asking someone at work, for example, is a different matter. So, try some of these subtle tests, it might be just the excuse that he has been waiting for.
