When you are in love and you get engaged to be married, every man wants to buy the best ring they can afford for the woman who is about to become their wife. Celebrities and royalty are just the same as the rest of us in that respect, but they can afford to splash just a little bit more on their gifts to their betrothed. When you read this list of some of the most expensive engagement rings in the world, your idea of what expensive is may change forever, because we are talking rings that cost millions of dollars, not just mere thousands.  Here’s a list if ten of the most expensive engagement rings that celebrities have worn on their fingers.

1. Grace Kelly – $4.06 million

When you are marrying into a royal family, you would expect something more than a run-of-the-mill, average engagement ring and that’s exactly what Prince Rainier III of Monaco gave to Grace Kelly when they got engaged. The prince had originally bought a Cartier eternity band of diamonds and rubies, but when he saw other Hollywood stars with even bigger rings, he upgraded his to a 10.7 carat, $4.06 million ring.

2. Anna Kournikova – $2.5 million

When the king of Latin pop music, Enrique Iglesias, set his heart on marrying Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova he decided that only the very best diamond agreement ring would do for the love of his life. He gave Kournikova a stunningly beautiful pear shaped, diamond engagement ring that was estimated to be worth around $2.5 million.

3. Mariah Carey – $2.5 million

Rapper Nick Cannon popped the question to Mariah Carey with some panache too. He wasn’t going to take no for an answer, so he splashed out – $2.5 million on a 17-carat pink diamond ring that has 58 individual diamonds on it. It did the trick, the couple married in that same year, but later divorced. This year Mariah Carey received another engagement ring that surpassed the previous one – the stunning 35-carat diamond and platinum engagement ring from her billionaire fiancé, James Packer.

4. Kim Kardashian – $8 million

Most of us make do with a romantic meal for two and a violinist playing in the background, but Kanye West hired a baseball stadium and a 50-piece orchestra to create the right ambience for his proposal to Kim Kardashian. He also presented her with a 15-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond engagement ring worth – $8 million.

5. Jacqueline Kennedy – $2.6 million

Five years after the assassination of her husband John F. Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy received a proposal for marriage and a he diamond engagement ring from the Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. It seems a bit of a waste, but she only wore the ring twice. The rest of the time, her very special diamond ring was locked securely away in a bank vault. The ring was sold for $2.59 million at an auction in 1996.

6. Beyoncé – $5 million

It must be nice to receive a ring that cost more than most people ever earn in a lifetime, but when you are Jay-Z, $5 million is just a drop in the ocean. That’s what he paid for the beautiful diamond engagement ring he gave to Beyoncé when he proposed to her.

7. Paris Hilton – $4.7 million

Greek heir to a shipping fortune, Paris Latsis, shelled out $4.7 million for a radiant 24-carat white gold engagement ring for the woman he wanted to marry, Paris Hilton. The pair got engaged in May 2005 and, by October of the same year they had split. It just goes to show that even – $4.7 million can’t buy you love! Paris Hilton later auctioned the ring to raise money for charity.

8. Jennifer Lopez – $4 million

Jennifer Lopez has a collection of three engagement rings, but the one that had the biggest price tag was the ring she was given by the R n’ B singer Marc Anthony, which is worth an estimated $4 million. At least this celebrity couple did actually get married. They married in 2004 and were divorced in 2011.

9. Blake Lively – $2.5 million

Green Lantern actor, Ryan Reynolds, dug deep into his pockets when he proposed to Blake Lively. He spent an estimated $2.5 million for an engagement ring and no one even knew they were engaged until the surprise wedding in 2012. The happy couple is still together and they now have a daughter.

10. Elizabeth Taylor – $8.8 million

Elizabeth Taylor really couldn’t make her mind up about men. She was married eight times and two of those marriages were to Richard Burton. She knew she liked her jewellery, though, and perhaps that’s why Richard Burton parted company with an astonishing – $8.8 million for a 33-carat Asscher-cut Krupp Diamond engagement ring.
