How to make your eyelashes grow longer and thicker? 10 Amazing home remedies
Long lashes look wonderful. They frame the eye, draw attention to it, and they can look so dramatic. If you don’t take care of your lashes, though, they will fall out before they get a chance to grow long and they will appear thin and sparse. You may not have paid much attention to the care of your eyelashes before, but with the right treatment, you can make them grow longer and thicker. If you don’t believe us, try some of these amazing home remedies and watch your lashes start to grow.
1. Be gentle with your eyelashes
The first thing to know if you want your lashes to grow longer is that we’ll need to start being gentle with them. An eyelash takes about eight weeks to grow so, if you pull one out, you will be missing it for two months. Be careful when removing mascara, and try not to rub your eyes. If you keep pulling out your lashes, you could cause permanent damage and then they will never grow back again.
2. Brush your lashes daily
Just like the hairs on your head, if your lashes become dry, they will become brittle, and that will make them more prone to breakage. Brushing your lashes daily with an eyelash brush will spread the natural oils along the full length of the lashes and that will help to keep them healthy. Brushing will also improve the blood supply to your lashes and that will help them grow.
3. Olive oil
One of the cheapest and simplest ways to encourage your eyelashes to grow is to use extra virgin olive oil on them. Apply olive oil to your eyelashes with a small brush, or just gently run some on with your finger, and then leave it on overnight. If you do that every night it will soon bring you results.
4. Green Tea
As if there weren’t enough reasons to have green tea in your kitchen cupboard, here’s another one! If you apply cool green tea to your eyelashes, it will help them grow longer and thicker. Simply steep green tea as you usually would, allow it to cool a bit so you don’t burn yourself, and then, dip a cotton wool ball in the tea and swipe your eyelashes with it.
5. Keep your eyelashes clean
You can give your lashes a helping hand to grow by keeping them clean. Make sure you give your eyes a wash when you wash your face and be sure to give them a good rinse too, so that you don’t leave any soap residue on them. Always remove eye makeup, and all your other makeup for that matter, before you go to bed. If you leave mascara on your lashes, there’s a good chance that you will pull some of your lashes out while you sleep.
6. Give your eyelashes an oil treatment
Olive oil and castor oil are also both very good for conditioning and nourishing lashes, so why not use a mixture of the two. Mix equal parts olive oil and castor oil and apply the mixture to your lashes with a brush. Leave it on overnight and it will help your lashes grow while you sleep.
7. Eat an eyelash friendly diet
What you eat will affect how long and thick your eyelashes grow. If you don’t eat a healthy diet, then, just like the hair on your head, your lashes won’t get the nourishment they need to grow strong and healthy. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of protein rich foods too.
8. Massage your eyelids
If you can improve the blood flow to the follicles of the eyelashes, that will increase the nutrients that are getting to them and help to encourage the growth of long and healthy looking lashes. You can do this by gently massaging your eyelids for a few minutes before you go to bed. Be very careful when you do this, though, you don’t want to damage your eyes, or pull out any eyelashes.
9. Don’t wear false eyelashes
Wearing false eyelashes is a bit of a catch 22 situation; you wear false lashes, because your real lashes are sparse, but, your real lashes are sparse, because you wear false lashes, if you see what we mean. Every time you remove false eyelashes, you are probably breaking a few of your own real lashes. Give the false lashes a break for seven to eight weeks, and that will give your real ones a chance to grow back.
10. Castor oil and egg whites
This one might sound a bit messy, but many people do say that the combination of castor oil and egg whites works wonders for eyelashes. Mix together equal parts egg whites and castor oil and apply it your eyelids. Leave it on for about half an hour and then wash it off again with cool water.
