8 Budget beauty tips and tricks every girl should try

Given half the chance, some of us would spend every last cent that we have on beauty products, there’s always something out there we need: a shade of mascara we haven’t tried yet, a new brand of moisturizer that’s just come onto the market that will take years off you, a lip-gloss that’s 100% guaranteed to stay glossy for up to eight hours. Well, sometimes there simply aren’t enough cents to go around, so here are a few budget beauty tips and tricks to help you cut the cost of staying beautiful:

1. Vaseline

So the name doesn’t exactly invoke visions of the most glamorous beauty product that money can buy and you don’t particularly want to be seen with a bargain, super-size tub of it in your handbag but Vaseline is truly a cheap, multi-purpose product. Cheaper than a lip gloss and a chap-stick, more effective on dry lips than many expensive, scented lip balms and it can be used on high points of your cheekbones as a highlighter.

2. Olive Oil

If you’ve run out of eye makeup remover, then there’s no need for a trip to the drugstore, just go into your kitchen. Olive oil works just as well and it makes a good, natural moisturizer and body lotion as well.

3. Recycle those mascara wands

When your mascara has run out, save the wand. Wash it clean with warm water and soap and you can use it as an eyebrow brush.

4. Liberate some napkins from Starbucks

The coffee house giant use recycled, unbleached paper in the napkins that they give you with a coffee. Help yourself to a few when you’re there, because they make excellent blotting papers for when you next need a quick skin touch up, when you’re out of your usual ones.

5. Use whitening toothpaste on your fingernails

Nail polish can leave stains behind on your finger nails, but giving your nails a quick scrub with some whitening toothpaste will soon sort that out.

6. Baby powder for hair

If your hair gets greasy quickly and you don’t have time to wash it, freshen it up with a light dusting of baby powder. It reduces the oily look and smells good too, but don’t overdo it or it will look the worst case of dandruff ever.

7. Squeeze the last drop

Have you ever wondered how much product you leave in the tube or bottle when you throw it out? Be sure to squeeze out every last drop, you’ve paid for it. And, just a small amount of warm water added to a bottle of shampoo, when it starts to run out, will probably give you another wash.

8. Drink water

No matter how many products are brought onto the market to tempt you, the most important and cheapest thing that you can do keep yourself looking radiant and healthy is to drink plenty of water. Water hydrates you, it washes out the toxins and it keeps your hair and your skin looking fresh and beautiful.

There are many ways to save money on beauty products and, probably, one of the best pieces of advice that we can give is – don’t be fooled into buying just the big brands. Did you know that many products that you buy at stores, including beauty products, are priced according to their brand label, rather than their content?

If you were to visit some factories, you would see the same product coming from the production area being bottled into two differently labelled bottles; one with a well-known, expensive brand name and another with a generically labelled bottle. Same stuff, different price!

I hope you find these budget beauty tips for women useful.
