Every lady, especially, as the time goes on, desires to look younger than her age. Let’s have a look at some beauty mistakes that, actually, can age you, instead of emphasizing your beauty:
1) Overload of concealer on dark circles
The area around the eyes is the most delicate one and it tends to get thinner with the age. When you try to cover up darkness under your eyes avoid applying too much concealer, because it can make you look a lot older, than you are. Instead, apply light weight concealer only on the areas where you see darkness and then, blend it with synthetic concealer brush, distributing the product evenly with light strokes.
2) Foundation that is too heavy or too light
Avoid overloading your face with foundation, because heavy coverage will emphasize every little fine line and we don’t want this, right? On the other hand, if you don’t apply enough foundation, all your little imperfections will be evident, which is also something we would love to avoid. Make sure to find good foundation that is perfectly suited for your skin type and your skin’s needs. The lightweight, hydrating formula with light-reflective particles can make your skin look flesh and glowing from within. You can also chose a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, instead of foundation, it will look more natural and light, but still will help cover imperfections. After you’ve applied your base, press a damp makeup sponge into areas where your wrinkles are the most obvious, it will help soak up any excess of product and give you beautiful, smooth finish.
3) Overload of powder
Many ladies apply the powder all over the face, which can tremendously amplify the appearance of fine lines. There is, actually, nothing wrong with setting your makeup with the powder, but avoid applying it on the under-eyes area and on any other places of your face where your fine lines are the most evident.
4) Thirsty and dry skin
Another frequent beauty faux pas is when you fail to hydrate your skin properly. Especially, applying your makeup on a dry and “hungry” skin can significantly age you. Instead, make sure to find right products suitable for your skin type to hydrate, moisturize and nourish your skin. Also, don’t forget about night beauty treatments that can work on your skin while you sleep. You can use products that you find on shop shelves or go for natural hydrating treatments. Personally, I love using natural oils to moisturize my skin, because I can be sure that they contain zero amount of harmful chemicals and preservatives, because the skin, actually, tends to “eat” everything you place on top of it. Some of my favorite, natural, moisturizing oils are coconut oil, rose hip oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil and olive oil. I love applying any of the above oils on my face prior to going to sleep and, in the morning, I wake up with fresh, nourished and glowing skin. Makeup glides on perfectly, if your skin is well hydrated! Also, make sure to regularly exfoliate your skin, getting rid of dull, old skin cells, it will help your makeup look very smooth and beautiful!
5) Certain types of lipsticks can make you look older
As you advance in age, you need to start paying attention to products that you use and lipstick is no exception. Certain formulas can really add you age, for example, lipsticks that are too dark, too drying, matte or metallic. All these types of lipsticks tend to emphasize fine lines, which is not something that gives you youthfulness! Chose naturally looking lipstick colors, nourishing and moisturizing formulas and don’t neglect using a lipgloss, as it helps add fulness and plumpness to your lips. Also, in order to avoid lipstick bleeding and feathering, trace your lips with clear lip liner before applying your lipstick or lip gloss; lip liner will help your color stay put for longer.
6) Bad eye makeup
Bad choice of eyeshadow can tremendously emphasize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, therefore, avoid applying shimmery, glittery and metallic eyeshadows on the areas, where you have fine lines and crow’s feet. Wrinkles become even more obvious when you apply shimmer on top of them. Instead, chose matte eyeshadows and warm-tone colors. Another eye makeup faux pas is when you overload your lower lash-line with dark eyeshadows that can “bleed” into fine lines and add you age. Also, avoid overloading your lower lash-line with tons of mascara and dark eyeliner, it can only draw attention to dark circles! If you want to look younger, keep your under eye area fresh and clean, just apply some light weight concealer and light coat of mascara and you are good to go.
7) Blush faux pas
Often, we tend to smile and apply blush right on the apples of our cheeks and there is nothing wrong with it, when you are in your twenties; but as people age, the skin has tendency to get saggy and less plump, therefore, avoid drawing attention to this. Apply your blush a little bit higher, right on the highest point of your cheeks and spread your blush on your cheekbone, avoiding to come too close to the nose. Also, chose softer, lighter and more natural looking shades (light rosy or peachy ones are perfect), avoiding blushes that are too dark or too bright.
