11 Wonderful beauty tips and beauty hacks you need to know about
Instead of the latest, must have, new and expensive makeup, we bring you 11 makeup shortcuts, quick fixes and DIY tips. Now, that’s what a girl really needs to know about makeup…We’ve compiled a list of our favourite beauty hacks, so read on and find 11 unusual beauty tips for you to try at home:
Beauty tip 1: Warm your eyelash curler for a better curl
If you slightly warm up your eyelash curler with a blow dryer before you use it, then you get a much better curl to your lashes and it will last longer too. It works in the same way that a curling iron does, just be careful not get it too hot and don’t burn your eye!
Beauty tip 2: Revive old mascara with a saline solution
If you have some mascara that has dried up and gone flaky, you can revive it by adding a few drops of saline solution to re-wet it. Remember though that you should not use mascara that’s more than three months old or it could cause eye infections. To prepare a saline solution at home just add half a teaspoon of salt into a cup of water, then pour the solution into a pot, put on the lid and boil for 10 minutes, stir well, let it cool down until room temperature and you are done – your saline solution is ready!
Beauty tip 3: Make eye shadow colours really stand out
You can make lighter shades of shadow stand out more if you first cover your eyelids with a white eyeshadow or white soft eye pencil. Apply the sheer or lightly pigmented shadow over the top of the white and the colours will really pop.
Beauty tip 4: Turn your pencil eyeliner into a gel
If your favourite eyeliner colour happens to be a pencil, but you don’t want the thin line that a pencil produces, heat up the tip of the pencil with the flame from a match, for a second or two, and it will change the consistency to that of an easier to apply gel. Make sure that it is cool enough to use before you apply it!
Beauty tip 5: Avoid mascara marks on your eyelid with a teaspoon
You can stop mascara getting onto your eyelid by holding a teaspoon over it. The spoon has the perfect shape, hold it so it’s hugging your eyelid, apply the mascara and any residue will go onto the spoon and not on your skin. Isn’t it great!
Beauty tip 6: Plump up lashes with powder
For fuller eyelashes, try dusting a translucent powder on your lashes between coats of mascara. The powder will help firm up the mascara and create a thicker coating, leaving you with a fuller set of eyelashes.
Beauty tip 7: Create your own lipgloss from eye shadow
If you have some left over pigments from an eyeshadow that you think would make a good colour for a lip gloss, then blend the pigments with some Vaseline and swipe it on your lips with a lip brush for a beautiful, homemade lip gloss.
Beauty tip 8: Conceal dark circles with a triangle of concealer
Rather than dotting concealer in the places that you think you need it, apply it in triangle shape under your eyes instead. The base of the triangle should be directly under the lash line and the point towards the cheek. This triangular shape will conceal any redness around the eye, will make you look more fresh and awake, your eye makeup will stand out, thanks to the touch of light you are creating under your eyes.
Beauty tip 9: How to remove stubborn nail polish
Some nail polish, especially glitter nail polish can be really difficult to remove. If you have some stubborn nail polish that simply won’t come off, then apply some nail polish remover to a ball of cotton wool, place it on your nail and then wrap your finger in some tin foil to keep it on. In just 3-5 minutes, any stubborn polish will simply lift off.
Beauty tip 10: Get an airbrush complexion
For a light and soft complexion, mix together your moisturiser, primer and foundation (you can even add a drop of liquid highlighter, if you want to add a beautiful glow to your complexion) and apply it to your face. You will get that airbrush look for a fraction of the cost.
Beauty tip 11: Rose water makeup setting spray
If you don’t want to spend money on a fancy makeup setting spray, try simply using rose water. Spray some rose water over your makeup sparingly and let it dry. Not only it will give you beautiful scent and add a healthy glow to your skin, but it will also help set your makeup perfectly and it doesn’t contain any chemicals! This trick works especially well with mineral makeup powders, such as BareMinerals Foundation Powder or Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation.
