11 Tips on how to get rid of razor bumps on legs and bikini after shaving

Razor bumps are not only unsightly and annoying, they can also become infected and cause further problems too. The bikini area is the worst, because the skin is so sensitive in that area. If razor bumps are a problem for you, then read our 11 tips on how to get rid razor bumps, quickly and easily:

1. Don’t pick!

Our first tip on how to get rid of razor bumps on legs and bikini is to avoid picking and scratching. They won’t go away if you keep picking at them. Leave them alone, or they will just get more inflamed, and they may become infected.

2. Throw away all old and rusty razor blades, and always use a sharp razor

Old, dull and rusty razor blades will cause razor bumps and they could be covered in bacteria too, so they will cause infection. Always use a new, sharp blade or, if you use an old one, sterilise it with some alcohol fist, to make sure that it’s clean.

3. Use a proper shaving product

Use a proper shaving cream that has a moisturising ingredient in it. Normal soap or shower gel does not have the same effect as proper shaving creams that are designed to soften the hairs and reduce the irritation to the skin that shaving can cause.

4. Wear cotton underwear

If no air can get to your skin, then razor bumps will just get worse. Wear cotton underwear that will allow your skin to breath or the sweat and bacteria will become trapped and aggravate the bumps.

5. Apply some crushed up aspirin

Next good trick on how to get rid of razor bumps is to use some crushed up aspirin. Crush up some aspirin, mix it with water to form a paste and then apply it to the affected area. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and wash off again with warm water. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, which helps to remove dead skin cells, kills bacteria and cleans out the pores.

6. Rose water or green tea cold compress

A cold compress made of rose water or green tea is another effective way to get rid of razor bumps, it will help sooth the skin and reduce inflammation, itching and redness. Soak a cloth in cold rose water or cooled green tea and apply it on the affected area for a couple of minutes.

7. Use some aloe vera

Aloe vera is another good treatment for razor bumps. It works as an antibacterial agent and it reduces the inflammation, so it can be a good way to quickly get rid of the razor bumps. Only make sure that you are not allergic to Aloe Vera before applying it to your skin.

8. Don’t shave every day

Shaving existing bumps will irritate them further and they will never go away. Give them a chance to heal by not shaving every day. Shaving every third day is probably the best option.

9. Applying some mild heat

Another good tip on how to get rid of razor bumps on legs and bikini is to use a hot compress on the area, or a wash cloth soaked in warm water. The heat will help the bumps go down and it will also kill off any bacteria that could make the bumps look worse.

10. Exfoliate your skin but don’t be too harsh

Gentle exfoliation of the affected area will also help. Exfoliating removes the dead skin cells and open up any clogged pores. This will both help get rid of existing bumps and help stop them coming back again.

11. Rinse with cold water

One of the simplest ways to stop razor bumps form occurring is to rinse the area with cold water after shaving. This closes up the pores, so irritants and bacteria are less likely to get in.
