10 Must-have beach essentials every girl needs to have

It’s summer time again, and the weather forecasters are saying that this could be the best summer yet! So, if you will be heading to the beach this year, now is the time to start planning for those lazy hot days by the sea. A little bit of preparation, to make sure that you have all the beach essentials in your beach bag, will ensure you have a stress free time in the sun, so read these ten must-have beach essentials every girl needs to have, so you don’t get caught out.

1. A big beach bag

Number one on the list has to be a big beach bag with plenty of pockets. Make sure that it has plenty of room for all your beach essentials, it’s made of a durable material, and that it has plenty of pockets, so you can find smaller items easily.

2. A beach hat

A beach hat is an essential item for a day in the hot sun. A wide brimmed hat will keep the sun off your head and your face and stop you getting burned or getting heat stroke. It will also protect your scalp and your hair from the ravages of both the sun and the wind and help keep you feeling and looking cool.

3. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must for any trip to the outdoors, but especially for trips to the beach. They will protect your eyes from the sun and from the glare from the ocean and, if the wind does pick up, they will help to keep the sand from getting into your eyes too. It is best not to take your best and most expensive pair though, just in case you lose them, or they get scratched.

4. A great swimsuit

Don’t forget to check out your swimsuit before you head off the beach to make sure that it still fits you well and it doesn’t look faded, or out of date. A good, well-fitting suit will make you feel great, fill you with self-confidence and you won’t be worrying about it coming off in the water.

5. Phone pouch

If you want to listen to some tunes on the beach, or stay in touch, then you will need to protect your phone against the water and the sand. Look out for a water resistant phone pouch that you can keep your phone in and still use it with headphones. They are an inexpensive essential that could save your phone from serious damage. Also, if you are going to be at the beach all day, a spare battery for your phone might be a good idea too.

6. Sunscreen and lip balm

You will need to protect your skin and your lips from the sun, so don’t forget lip balm and sunscreen. Experts recommend that the best sunscreen for a day on the beach should have an SPF of 30, or higher, to protect you from getting sunburn from the UVB rays of the sun and it should also be a broad spectrum sunscreen, which will also protect your skin from UVA rays.

7. A huge beach towel

A large, soft and colourful beach towel should be in your bag too, and the bigger, the better! If you find yourself without a beach chair, you can lie on your towel, you can wrap it around you if you need a break from the sun and, if it’s a super-soft towel, it won’t be so painful when you dry yourself, if you do happen to get a bit of sunburn.

8. Bottled water

You know how important it is to stay hydrated, so always take a bottle of water with you to the beach. You can become dehydrated very quickly when you are in the sun all day and that could make you feel quite unwell and ruin your day. If you have water with you, you can grab a drink whenever you feel you need one and never have to leave your perfect spot on the beach. Also, we recommend you to give your preference to glass bottles, rather than plastic ones.

9. Something good to read

Pack a good book and a few of your favourite magazines too. The beach is an ideal place to catch up on some reading, while you lay back and take in the sun. Nothing too heavy though; magazines with short articles is often the best, and then you can pick it up and put down again whenever you want.

10. After-sun lotion

The sun, salt and wind will dry your skin out fast, so be prepared and have some after-sun lotion in your beach bag. Using and after-sun moisturiser will rehydrate your skin and it will help make your tan last for longer too.
