10 Fabulous beauty hacks every busy girl should know
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get a few extra hours in the day, so you could take your time doing your makeup and hair in the mornings? Whatever you do for a living, or if you are a stay-at-home mum, there never seems to be enough time available to spend as much of it as you would like on your beauty regime, so here are ten beauty hacks that every busy girl needs to know.
1. Use a credit card for your bat wings
When you are in a hurry, getting straight lines of any kind with your eye makeup can be tricky. If you don’t have time to carefully draw precise lines for a bat wing eye, or your hands are too shaky from all the rushing around, just grab a credit card from your purse and use that as a guide to get perfectly straight lines.
2. Put your mascara on double duty
If you lose your eyeliner, or it runs out just when you don’t want it to, don’t panic! There’s no need for a last minute dash to the store to buy some new eyeliner; your mascara can double for it instead. Just sweep your eyeliner brush against a loaded mascara wand and you’re ready to go.
3. Use mouthwash to tone down bruises
It’s easy to knock and arm or a leg during the day and then forget all about it. Until, that is, you spot the bruise the following morning. Rubbing mouthwash on a bruise will quickly reduce both the decolouration and any swelling.
4. Use a toothbrush to tame flyaway hairs
Another one of great beauty hacks is to use a toothbrush to tame flyaway hairs. Those pesky flyaway hairs that just won’t stay down, whatever you do, always seem to pop up and make an appearance just when you are really short of time. The quickest way to tame a flyaway hair is to spay a little hairspray onto an old toothbrush and comb the flyaway strands of hair into place. Just be sure to remember which toothbrush you used; hairspray really doesn’t taste very nice at all!
5. Thicken lashes with baby powder
Here is another one of fabulous and useful beauty hacks: for a quick way to thicken lashes, just apply a bit of baby powder to your eyelashes before your mascara or between coats. Baby powder works great for thickening and extending lashes in an emergency, when you don’t have the time to fiddle around putting false lashes on.
6. A solution for a broken eyelash curler
If you find yourself in a fix with a broken eyelash curler, or you simply can’t remember where you put it, here’s a simple solution to that problem: warm up a teaspoon with your hairdryer and press the warm spoon curve inwards, against your lashes and roll it upwards. This is one of those simple beauty hacks that will do the job when you are stuck for time, but make sure that the spoon is not too hot or you might burn your eyelids.
7. What to do if you run out of deodorant?
When you reach for the deodorant and you find that it’s empty, run down to the kitchen and grab the baking soda. It may not have a beautiful scent, but if you pat a little bit of baking soda under your arms, it will keep you odour free all day long. You can also add a drop or two of lemon essential oil into a tablespoon of baking soda, mix well and use it as deodorant, then it will also have a wonderful, refreshing scent. Baking soda is often used in different beauty hacks, and here is another one of them: if you run out of mouthwash, a teaspoon of baking soda mixed into a glass of water will do a passable job as a mouthwash too.
8. Dry your hair with a T-shirt
Believe it or not, towels aren’t the most absorbent things that you could use to dry your hair. When you get out of the shower and you have no time to spare, pat dry your hair with one cotton T-shirt and then wrap your hair in a second, dry T-shirt. Your hair will dry while you get everything else done.
9. Blot oil on your face with a coffee filter
If you are out on a hot, humid day and you start to get a bit of a sheen on your t-zone, then here is one of simple, yet useful beauty hacks that can save your day: coffee filter paper will help blot shine away. If you find yourself in Starbucks, then grab a few of their paper napkins, because they make great oil absorbing blotting papers too.
10. Use corn-starch as a dry shampoo
If you don’t have time to wash your hair and you can’t find any dry shampoo, then another trip to the kitchen will solve that one for you as well. Sprinkle a little corn starch onto your roots and it will take away the greasy look. Our old friend, baking soda or baby powder, both do a good job of being a dry shampoo too.
