10 Beauty tricks to get pretty without leaving your kitchen
We couldn’t live without modern cosmetics and beauty products these days, but it hasn’t always been that way. Once upon a time, girls had to make do with what they could find at home and that usually meant a trip to the kitchen to whisk up some of their own, home-made products. It’s never a bad thing to give your skin and hair a break from all those chemicals that you find in many commercial beauty products, so give these ten beauty tricks a try, and the ingredients come straight out your kitchen.
1. Avocado and lemon hair paste
Try a vegan treat for your hair that will restore all the shine and beauty back to your tresses with this pure and simple avocado and lemon hair mask. Mash up one peeled avocado in a bowl and add half a teaspoon of salt, a tablespoon of lemon juice and a tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Mix it all together, apply to your hair and leave it on for about thirty minutes before washing out again.
2. Whiten teeth with strawberries
You can quickly bring a beautiful white shine to your teeth with just some strawberries and a little baking soda. Mash up some fresh strawberries in a bowl, along with a pinch of baking soda and then brush your teeth with the mixture, just as you would with ordinary toothpaste. Apparently, this is what Britney Spears does, so there must be something in it! (Don’t do it too often though and avoid this treatment if you have sensitive teeth, as it can damage your enamel if you overdo it).
3. Soothe sunburn with apple cider vinegar
If you’ve spent too long in the sun, then adding apple cider vinegar to your bath with soothe away the pain and reduce the redness. One cup of apple cider vinegar added to a warm bath will soon relieve the pain and let you get a good night’s sleep.
4. Try a honey facial
Pure honey is great for the skin. It contains powerful anti-fungal and anti-viral ingredients that fight infections in the skin and antioxidants that help protect your skin from free radical damage. Simply apply raw honey to your face and neck and leave it on for about five minutes, so it can work its magic. (Avoid this treatment if you have sensitive skin though, as honey can be a little irritating).
5. Sugar and olive oil scrub for your hands
Anyone can get dry, tough hands, especially in the cold winter months. The simplest way to get them soft and smooth again, and remove the dead skin, is with and olive oil and sugar scrub. Mix two tablespoons of olive oil with one tablespoon of sugar and rub your hands gently together. Then, rinse your hands in warm water and moisturise with olive oil on its own.
6. Garlic for thicker hair growth
The smell may not be so great, but garlic has been used for centuries as a treatment to encourage the growth of hair. Crush two cloves of garlic and heat it for a few minutes in some coconut oil. Let the mixture cool and massage it onto your scalp to help promote the growth of thick and healthy hair.
7. Home-made dandruff treatment
Get those annoying white flakes under control with this amazingly effective homemade dandruff treatment. Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice with four tablespoons of coconut oil and one tablespoon of grapefruit juice. Massage the mixture well into your scalp and then leave it on for about twenty minutes. It will clear up the dandruff and leave your hair shiny and flake free.
8. Remove warts with apple cider vinegar
You can quickly remove warts, without freezing or chemicals, by soaking some cotton wool in apple cider vinegar, placing it over the wart and holding it in place with a sticking plaster.
9. Papaya skin peel
Papaya is absolutely fantastic for removing dead skin cells and brightening up the complexion. Mash it up with a spoonful of honey and have the perfect, natural, exfoliating face pack.
10. Coconut oil, makeup remover
To gently remove makeup at the end of the day take just a small bit of coconut oil, on the tips of your fingers, and rub it in. It removes all kinds of makeup easily, even mascara!
