10 Amazing beauty hacks you need to know about
We’re all busy people, and when we’re swamped, taking lots of time to put a full face of make-up on isn’t always feasible. Don’t even get us started on painting our nails or looking after our skin! When the workload builds, or life gets in the way, your beauty routine is often the first thing that goes out the window. A make-up wipe followed by a dab of mascara is all most of us can manage when it hits crunch time. Lack of funds can also be the reason we let our routine slip or stop trying new things. Thankfully, we’ve done some snooping and gathered ten brilliant beauty hacks to help you look your best in an instant. Enjoy!
Paint glue on your nails
This first beauty hack sounds bizarre, but it’s honestly SUCH a lifesaver if you hate removing your nail polish. You know when you try and take off a colour but it’s being really stubborn? Yeah, this tip stops that happening. You’re welcome. Paint a thin layer of PVA glue on your bare nail and allow to dry before applying regular nail polish. When the time comes to change up your polish, just gently pick at a corner of your nail and peel the whole colour off in one sheet. It’s like magic!
Castor oil for thicker brows
If, like us, you were a little too pluck-happy in your younger days, you’re probably spending a lot of time and money trying to fill out your brows. Brow products can be expensive, and getting them tinted at the salon all the time just isn’t doable for those of us on a tighter budget. The solution? Castor oil! Apply castor oil all over your eyebrows to promote faster hair growth. This beauty hack makes eyebrows appear much thicker and darker, and will actually multiply the amount of hairs that naturally grow, as well saving you time you’d usually spend faffing around with eyebrow filler.
Whiter teeth with baking soda
If you want whiter teeth but can’t afford the highly priced at-home whitening kits advertised everywhere, it’s simple to make your own at home. Just reach into the kitchen cupboard! Brushing your teeth with baking soda once a week is a gentle and simple way to buff away stains and whiten the appearance of teeth. This little beauty hack will help remove tea and coffee stains and make your teeth pearly white again in no time. Yay!
Make your own rubber brush-cleaning mat
We all know that cleaning our make-up brushes regularly is important for good skin, but the rubber mats our favourite YouTube stars use to do this can be super pricey. Instead of spending all your hard earned dollar on one, why not just make your own at home? All you need for this beauty hack is a cheap plastic clipboard and a glue gun. Using the glue gun, draw wavy lines, dots and swirls all over the plastic board. After allowing the glue to completely dry, squirt a little water and soap onto the board before swirling your brush around on it. The grooves help remove all the yucky product build up, and the board can be washed and reused countless times.
DIY lip scrub
Shelling out your hard earned pennies for a lip scrub in a tub is completely pointless when you can easily make your own at home. Just mix a teaspoon of brown sugar with some honey and apply to your lips to buff off any dead skin cells for smooth, baby soft lips. Rinse as usual and reveal your new pout!
Connect the dots
If you love a feline flick of eyeliner but can’t seem to get it right, here is a beauty hack that will help: draw dots on your eyelid as close to the lash line as possible before you draw the line. Using the dots as a guide, join up the spaces with your liquid eyeliner pen and make the line thicker to hide your workings. No one will ever know!
Heat your eyelash curler
If you want beautiful, curly eyelashes that last all day, then you need to know about this beauty hack: put your blow dryer on a warm (not hot) setting and blow on your eyelash curler until tolerably hot. Use the curler as usual, (making sure it’s not hot enough to burn your skin beforehand) and apply mascara. The heat makes the curl last so much longer, so you’ll look wide-eyed and innocent all day long.
Make your mascara go longer
If your mascara seems to have dried up and you’re struggling to get enough product to cover your lashes, here is one goodbeauty hack: just heat some water and put the bottom of the mascara tube in it. The heat melts the product slightly, allowing the extra mascara on the sides of the tube to slip down onto your brush. Hey presto – another couple of day’s use!
Get the perfect selfie at night
Want to take the perfect selfie in the dark? We’ve got you. Not technically a beauty hack, but a tip that’ll show off your hard-earned work when you’ve gone all out with the make-up: use another camera flash to light your surroundings. Take the picture with your own phone (with the flash on) and voila – a glowing, perfectly lit selfie. Instagram goals for sure.
Prime your eyes with white eyeliner
If you want to make your eyeshadow really pop, apply a thin layer of white eyeliner pencil all over the lid before you do anything else. Use any drugstore eyeshadow over the top and see how pigmented your product looks now – magic, right? The white acts as a neutraliser, toning down your natural skin colour and allowing the true colour of the eyeshadow to shine. Show stopping!
