8 Useful and good habits that will simplify your life

If only life was more simple. Wouldn’t that be nice! Modern gadgets and technology were going to make life easier, but they seem to have had the opposite effect. The complicated and hectic lifestyles that we live today, are the cause of the highest levels of stress related diseases in history. So, slow down and simplify your life today with these eight simple tips:

1. Just say ‘NO’!

Learning to say ‘no’ is the first step to a simple and stress free life. Taking on more, than we can handle isn’t a sign of our ability to multitask, it’s just a way of increasing our stress levels. Think about yourself for a change and concentrate on what you can do comfortably in a day, and life will become a whole lot simpler.

2. Tidy up

When had you last had a real good clear out of your junk? Clutter around the home or in the workplace just adds to the complications in your life, so get rid of the things you no longer use or need. Less belongings means less choices, it’s easier to find things and you can do some good by donating some of your possessions to a charity.

3. Make lists and take things one at a time

Don’t get stressed over the things that you forgot to do and make a list instead. List making ensures that you get things done, it gives you a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day and it places some control over your day to day activities. And remember, concentrate on just one task at a time and you will get all your tasks completed faster and you will do a better job.

4. Don’t tell lies

Life is far simpler, when you tell the truth. Even little white lies can lead to a complicated web of bigger ones, until you reach the stage that you lose track of what you have said to whom. Keep it simple, keep it honest and it will make things a whole lot easier all round.

5. Take a closer look at your ‘to-do’ list

Take a step back and think about the things that you do every day, every week and every month. Do you really need to vacuum the lounge every day? Does the car absolutely have to be washed today? Most people can quickly simplify their life by knocking a few unnecessary jobs off their ‘to-do’ list. Give it a go, it’s not being lazy, it’s just becoming more efficient with your time management.

6. Stop being a perfectionist and you will be happier

We all have our weaknesses and strengths, so be comfortable with yours and stop looking for perfection. Sometimes, getting a job finished is far better, than taking forever striving for perfection, so be satisfied with the best that you can do in the time available, and you will be happier.

7. Live within your means

One of the biggest causes of a complicated life is money problems, but it’s hard to resist all those ‘buy now pay later’ and ‘interest free’ offers that you see advertised. Keep things simple though and only buy what you can afford or save up to buy the larger items, then you won’t find yourself constantly juggling and worrying about money and bills.

8. Reserve some time for you

Most people have more time available to them, than they think. Organize your time better and you will have more free time to do the fun things in life, and free time is important to everybody. If you don’t set aside time for relaxation and enjoyment, it actually becomes counterproductive, because you find yourself becoming trapped in a viscous cycle of work, work and more work. With no rest and no play, you become less effective at work, so take time to play, do things that you love and enjoy life!
