8 TIPS ON HOW TO START LIVING IN THE PRESENT MOMENT AND HOW TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE MORE

8 Tips on how to start living in the present moment and how to enjoy your life more

We, human beings, do spend an awful lot of time, dwelling in the past and dreaming of the future. It’s a bit of a strange habit really, especially given that we can neither alter the past, nor predict the future. All it really can do is to make us wonder about what we could have been and worry about what might be, and that’s why people who live for today are often the happiest. So, enjoy today for what today brings and make more of life by reading our eight tips on how to start living in the present and how to enjoy your life more:

1. Be determined to live for the now

To start with, living in the present can take a lot effort. Become mindful of your own thoughts and direct them away from the past or the future, and concentrate on today. Remember that when you are not focussing on the present, you are missing out on things. Training yourself to stay in the present will be well worth the effort.

2. Stop judging yourself

Our next tip on how to start living in the present moment and how to enjoy your life more is – stop judging yourself. Self-acceptance is a big part of being able to live in the present. Embrace who and what you are, and try not to judge yourself too harshly for the past. Accept the past as lessons learned and look to the future with a positive mental attitude and make the most of today.

3. Analyze your thoughts

Fear is often unfounded, so when you find negative thoughts creeping into your mind, question your thoughts and think about it a little. Over worrying about things can affect your overall health and take your mind off enjoying today, so question the reasons for your negative thoughts and, when you think about it, it’s actually probably not worth worrying about.

4. Focus on what’s right in front of you

Another tip on how to start living in the present moment and how to enjoy your life more is – concentrate hard on what is happening right now and enjoy all that is around you. Use all your senses: your sight, your hearing, your sense of smell and your sense of touch, and try to fully experience the world around you. You can reconnect with the present by just looking out the window and taking in all that’s out there, as long as you focus on it.

5. Pinch yourself!

If your mind is wandering, then give yourself a pinch on the arm and it will soon bring you back to today and to the present moment. Focus on that sensation for a minute and the thoughts of the past or the future will give way to the here and now. Don’t hit too hard though, we don’t want bruises!

6. Work hard and play hard

Put everything that you have into whatever you are doing right now and not only you will enjoy it more, but you will also do it better too. Living in the present means making the most of the present, so concentrate, do your best and everything you do will become easier and more fun.

7. Stop making excuses

There’s no better time, than the present to get things done, so get on with it and do it today. Even a little progress is better, than making none, so stop with the excuses and start getting things dome today or you will just build up a long list of things to worry about.

8. Learn to turn the page

And our final tip on how to start living in the present moment and how to enjoy your life more is – learn to turn the page? Life really is like a book. When you turn a page, that page is finished and the new page is filled with new opportunities and new possibilities. It is important to be able to accept the ending of a page or even a whole a chapter, and leave the past where it belongs. That’s what makes today so exciting, you just don’t know what it may hold in store for you!
